Writes and edits legal summaries and abstracts of source material including cases, rulings, and procedures, and researches and reports on assigned topics for print and electronic publication. Must have excellent organizational skills and be able to produce copy that with a strong emphasis on tight, accurate, authoritative writing. May also assign source material for summarizing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the department’s objectives.

1. Writes summaries of tax-related court cases, legislation, regulations, public comments on regulations, guidance, administrative rulings, and news releases pertaining to tax policy and law.
2. Creates explanatory writing as assigned, such as Internal Revenue Code section summaries.
3. Enters information in the Content Management System, according to established procedures.
4. Keeps abreast of current events through pertinent literature, media, and contacts with government officials, tax professionals, industry groups, and others.
5. Adheres to established publication deadlines, and company style guidelines.
6. May organize, prioritize, and assign source material for summarizing.
7. Edits for substance, style, and accuracy, conducts research as needed, and ensures proper citation style.
8. Alerts editorial staff about newsworthy documents and developments.

Requirements

• J.D. required
• Highly motivated and well-organized
• Ability to work under deadline pressure in a team environment
• Good computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Word
• Familiarity with online publishing and web-content management
• Previous experience in tax publishing or practice preferred

Salary Range: $87,000 - $95,000
