What success looks like in this role:

Research ICT Infrastructure Operations Support Services

This service shall deliver Infrastructure Operations Support Services for research, laboratory, experimental and deployable ICT environments supporting client research activities.

The service is responsible for maintaining the operational effectiveness, availability, security, and supportability of research ICT infrastructure, systems, networks, data services, and associated technology platforms.

Service personnel will work collaboratively with researchers, technical specialists, cyber security personnel, and ICT service providers to support research outcomes while ensuring compliance with organisational security and operational requirements.

Core Service Functions

1. Infrastructure Operations Support

Provide day-to-day operational support and maintenance of research ICT infrastructure including Deployment and configuration of ICT equipment and services, Installation and maintenance of operating systems, Hardware lifecycle support, Monitoring and management of infrastructure availability and performance, Routine maintenance activities, Incident diagnosis and resolution and Escalation and coordination of complex technical issues.

2. Research Environment Support

Provide technical support services to research and laboratory environments including Integration of laboratory instrumentation and experimental systems, Support for scientific computing infrastructure, Support for experimental and deployable ICT systems, Assistance during experiments, trials and field activities where required.

3. Network Operations Support

Provide operational support for research networking environments including Connectivity management, Switching and routing support, Firewall rule implementation and coordination, Network monitoring and fault resolution, Integration of research systems into approved network environments.

4. Data and Storage Services

Provide support for research data management services including Administration of research storage platforms, Data ingestion and movement services, Support for secure transfer of information between approved environments, Monitoring storage utilization and service health.

5. Security and Compliance Support

Support the implementation and operation of security controls including: Compliance with Defence and organizational ICT security policies, Support for ASD Information Security Manual (ISM) requirements, Development and maintenance of technical and security documentation, Identification and reporting of security issues and risks, Support for security accreditation activities where required.

6. Configuration and Asset Management

Provide support for ICT asset and configuration management activities including: Maintenance of asset records, Configuration control of hardware and software, Support for asset lifecycle processes, Maintenance of system documentation and operational records.

Responsibilities:

• Operate effectively within established procedures and work practices.

• Deliver infrastructure operational support services under general supervision.

• Follow approved technical processes and standards.

• Troubleshoot and resolve routine and moderately complex technical issues.

• Escalate issues appropriately when specialist assistance is required.

• Maintain a strong customer service focus.

• Work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams.

• Adapt to changing operational priorities and research requirements.

• Rapidly acquire knowledge of unfamiliar technologies and research platforms.

You will be successful in this role if you have:

• Must be an Australian Citizen.

• Hold and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance at the Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) standard.
