Job Summary
This role is responsible for leading product definition, firmware integration, and feature qualification for new print platforms. The role provides technical leadership across firmware, formatter, systems, validation, partner, and manufacturing teams to translate product requirements into executable plans, manage technical risk, and drive feature readiness through development, qualification, and introduction. The role applies strong engineering judgment, cross-functional collaboration, and systems thinking to resolve issues and improve execution across the product lifecycle. As this positions works with Canon sensitive data, it needs to be within the Canon Firewall.
Key Responsibilities
- Leads or contributes to product feature definition for new product platforms, including system performance, system power management, print and image quality, product reliability, software drivers, control panel, and supplies.
- Partners with asset teams, including firmware, formatter, and related engineering functions, to document, align, and prioritize product requirements and technical tradeoffs.
- Owns integration and qualification of product firmware assets, including Canon DCC and HP formatter firmware (Jedi, Jolt, and Dune), for partner development and testing.
- Creates firmware integration repositories for new Enterprise product by cloning and preparing predecessor product branches for Jedi and Jolt platforms.
- Performs triage of system issues found by partners by collecting firmware logs, documenting defects, prioritizing issues in Jira, coordinating root-cause analysis, and qualifying fixes to closure.
- Leads feature reviews and design meetings with development teams to drive technical alignment, decisions, and execution.
- Acts as a senior feature consultant during design, development, and validation phases to resolve risks, dependencies, and implementation gaps.
- Serves as a core technical member of the product PMT and product technical meetings, representing integration status, readiness, and key risks.
- Leads Beta and Delta readiness qualification activities and contributes as a core member of Beta and Delta teams.
- Partners with the Falcon team to qualify and release manufacturing firmware builds through product ramp and supports early manufacturing builds.
- Owns and maintains specialty tools for Canon DCC, Canon finishing, HP firmware triage and debugging, robotics automation for testing, and Canon IP tracking.
- Owns the JetLink/JLC firmware component for Canon specialty printing and finishing.
- Drives process improvements for product definition, firmware integration, and feature development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 5-7 years of experience in hardware or firmware development or systems engineering, including technical leadership for printing, computing, or other technical products.
- Strong knowledge of embedded systems, product development lifecycles, system qualification, and cross-functional product development.
- Demonstrated ability to translate product needs into clear requirements, make sound technical tradeoffs, and drive priorities across engineering teams.
- Experience with issue triage, defect tracking, firmware log analysis, root-cause investigation, and qualification of corrective actions.
- Proven ability to lead technical discussions, influence stakeholders, and drive decisions in fast-moving development environments.
- Experience across the product lifecycle, including design, partner enablement, validation, manufacturing ramp, and post-release support.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of print systems, print hardware assets such as control panels, PC boards, software drivers, and print consumable supplies in a product development environment.
- Experience with Jira, firmware logging tools, qualification workflows, structured defect prioritization, and configuration management practices.
- Experience supporting partner development, validation testing, manufacturing firmware releases, and early production builds.
- Working knowledge of automation, robotics-based testing, and debugging tools used for system validation and failure analysis.
- Ability to mentor others and improve team processes through technical leadership and best-practice sharing.
- Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and execution skills, with the ability to balance technical depth and program priorities.
Success Measures
- Product requirements are clearly defined, prioritized, and actionable across feature teams.
- Firmware assets are integrated and qualified on schedule for partner development, testing, and manufacturing milestones.
- System issues are triaged quickly and driven to resolution with strong cross-team follow-through.
- Beta, Delta, and ramp readiness risks are identified early and mitigated effectively.
- Tools, processes, and component ownership areas are maintained in a way that improves quality, speed, and reuse across programs.
The pay range for this role is $130,700 to $205,200 USD annually with additional opportunities for pay in the form of bonus and/or equity (applies to United States of America candidates only). Pay varies by work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
