About this Lead Engineer - Acoustics (Rotor & System Noise) (m/w/d) role at GE Vernova

GE Vernova · Onsite · Garching

Job Description Summary

As Lead Acoustics Engineer, you will join the GE Vernova Wind Acoustics team within the System Simulation organization. In this role, you will serve as a key technical focal point for New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, balancing the critical objectives of maximizing wind turbine power output with stringent acoustic performance requirements. You will support the development and application of high-fidelity aeroacoustic models, drive experimental validation programs and help shape the design processes that define our next generation of wind turbine technology.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide innovative technology and support to maximize wind turbine power output through blade and NRO designs, targeting high performance and low noise.
  • Execute high-fidelity analytical and computational aeroacoustic and aerodynamic calculations.
  • Perform analyses and field test support for the identification and reduction of wind turbine noise source mechanisms.
  • Serve as the acoustic technical focal point for selected NPI programs, providing direct input into new blade design cycles to ensure acoustic targets are met. Interact with System Simulation and Systems engineers to ensure that noise performance targets are understood, prioritized and successfully validated.
  • Propose and lead experimental programs to validate new airfoil, add-on designs and explore new technologies.
  • Support the development of the system-level acoustic tool chain, interact with developers to identify improvements, new approaches and coordinate their implementation.
  • Develop processes and methods to support internal quality and traceability of design decisions.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Significant experience in fluid mechanics, wind turbine acoustics and aerodynamics.
  • Advanced skills in MATLAB and Python for data analysis, process automation, and modeling.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree in Mechanical, Acoustics, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with GE Vernova wind turbine platforms or similar utility-scale wind technology.
  • Experience with experimental methods for acoustic, fluid dynamic, and aerodynamic measurements.
  • Experience in related aeroacoustic theory such as trailing edge noise, boundary layer noise or turbomachinery noise.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills. Effective collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
