Job Summary

The Cardiac Sonographer Lead is responsible for independently performing all echocardiograms, including those that are very complex, in the hospital-based and/or pediatric settings. The sonographer lead will serve as the liaison between sonographers and leadership. They are also responsible for coordinating the sonographer schedule and coverage under the guidance of the manager and medical director. The sonographer lead is involved in accreditation applications and ongoing quality assurance projects. They are expected to provide constructive feedback to staff and input on staff performance evaluations, hiring, and corrective action. Responsibilities may change over time at the discretion of department leadership to meet the department's evolving needs.

Essential Functions
Lead Advanced Cardiac Sonography Operations
Perform all Cardiac Sonographer III duties while serving as a clinical and technical resource for sonography staff, fellows, and trainees.

Oversee Accreditation and Quality Assurance
Manage accreditation applications, compliance activities, and ongoing quality assurance initiatives to maintain regulatory and program standards.

Support Staff Leadership and Development
Provide constructive feedback, ensure adherence to imaging protocols, and contribute to performance evaluations, hiring decisions, corrective actions, and staff development.

Coordinate Staffing, Scheduling, and Workflow
Develop and manage sonographer schedules, approve time-off requests, and ensure adequate coverage and efficient workflow in collaboration with leadership.

Serve as a Key Liaison and Educator
Act as a communication link between sonographers and leadership, represent the team in meetings, build relationships with educational programs, interview students, and teach fellows.

Advance Operational, Research, and Technology Initiatives
Collaborate with investigators on research operations, prioritize and triage patient orders, contribute to study protocol development, and provide input on equipment evaluations and implementation.


 

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Sonography preferred
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI, or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS required
  • 5-7 years of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred
  • New Hampshire locations: Medical Imaging License through the State of New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure & Certification (OPLC) required upon hire
