Responsibilities:

The Paleoclimate and Climate Change Lab at Brown University seeks a Lab Manager to oversee lab operations and to support and contribute to a diverse portfolio of research projects. The Lab Manager will manage operations of
the lab's cavity ringdown spectrometers and provide assistance to student research assistants and visiting researchers alike.


Responsibilities include instrument operation, scheduling and maintenance; lab purchasing and related paperwork; sample preparation; data and metadata analysis, quality control, and archival; training and oversight
of student research assistants and other lab personnel; and ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines.


This position is a full-time, 12-month position 100% research funded and is for one year with the possibility of renewal, based on satisfactory work performance and dependent upon funding.


Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geosciences, environmental science, or other STEM field strongly preferred with a minimum of 2 years of related work experience or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

  • Prior experience in climate, paleoclimate, geology, and/or oceanographic research preferred.

  • Experience operating analytical instrumentation is preferred.

  • Experience with data analysis and visualization software (e.g. R, Matlab, Python) is preferred.

Job Competencies

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with Google suite, MS Office, and data analysis and visualization software. 

  • Scientific writing and reporting.

  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a laboratory environment.

  • Project management experience preferred.
