Torch Technologies is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Propulsion Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting an Army Aviation Program Management Office (PMO). In this entry-to-junior level role, you will provide critical engineering support for the design oversight, integration, testing, and sustainment of military aviation propulsion systems.

Serving as an integral member of our technical team, you will assist in coordinating with contractors, military stakeholders, and airworthiness authorities to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of our next-generation and legacy aircraft fleets. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to grow your technical skills, receive mentorship from senior engineers, and play a direct role in supporting our nation's defense.

As a Junior Propulsion Engineer your duties will include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Technical Management Support: Assist in the technical management and engineering oversight of the design, development, integration, and production of aircraft turbine engines and auxiliary power units (APUs).
  • FADEC Systems Engineering: Support the integration, verification, and validation of Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) systems and software, ensuring alignment with safety-critical and cyber-security standards.
  • Aircraft Survivability (IRSS): Assist in the evaluation and physical integration of engine exhaust and Infrared Signature (IRS) systems to help optimize aircraft survivability.
  • Test & Evaluation (T&E): Support the planning, execution, and data analysis of propulsion system ground, laboratory, and flight testing, helping to ensure compliance with military test protocols.
  • Ancillary Subsystem Integration: Assist with the engineering coordination of critical propulsion subsystems, including fuel control, lubrication, engine starting, and diagnostics/prognostics (health monitoring) systems.
  • Technical Review & Airworthiness: Participate in technical reviews of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) design specifications, qualification test plans, technical reports, and Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) to support Airworthiness Releases (AWR).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with logistics, systems safety, program management, and flight operations teams to support overall program schedule goals and milestones.

Required Qualifications: 

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience in aviation propulsion, turbine engines, or aerospace systems engineering (relevant internship or co-op experience will be considered).
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Foundational understanding of gas turbine thermodynamics, FADEC architecture, engine/airframe integration principles, and general engineering physics.
  • Familiarity with basic systems engineering processes and lifecycle milestones (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present technical data, write clear reports, and collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Exposure to DoD acquisition processes or experience supporting a DoD Program Management Office (PMO).
  • Basic familiarity with military aviation standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-882, MIL-HDBK-516).
  • Experience using propulsion cycle modeling software, CAD systems, or data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, NPSS).
