About this Junior Mobile Developer role at MECCA
About the Job
At MECCA, we're reimagining how beauty and technology meet, and mobile is right at the heart of it.
We're looking for a Junior Mobile Developer to join our Digital team and help build the React Native app used by our customers across iOS and Android.
This isn't a purely task-based junior role. You'll contribute to features in our live app, working alongside experienced engineers. With guidance and support, you'll take ownership of clearly scoped work, from implementation and testing through to release, and build confidence and independence as you go.
What you'll do
• Build and maintain our mobile app using React Native
• Turn Figma designs into polished, responsive experiences
• Work on diverse features such as authentication, experimentation, analytics and push notifications
• Contribute to automated testing across unit, integration and ideally E2E frameworks
• Collaborate with designers and our tech lead to turn ideas into working product
• Help investigate production issues and implement and test fixes, with support from experienced engineers
• Use AI-assisted development tools like Claude Code, Cursor or Codex in your everyday workflow, and understand, review and test the code they generate
What you'll bring
• Around 1-2 years of hands-on commercial experience with React Native and TypeScript
• Familiarity with building reusable UI components and working with component libraries or design systems
• Foundational knowledge of responsive layouts, accessibility, animations and mobile performance, with a willingness to develop these skills
You will also have:
• An understanding of iOS and Android fundamentals, including platform differences and app lifecycles
• A basic understanding of client state versus server state, and exposure to Zustand or similar (Redux, MobX)
• Experience integrating with REST or GraphQL APIs, including loading states, errors and async data
• Some experience writing automated tests, ideally with Jest or React Native Testing Library
• Familiarity with Git, code reviews and Agile ways of working
• Clear communication, a collaborative approach and a willingness to ask questions and seek feedback
You don't need to tick every box. We value curious people who ask why and think problems through before jumping to a solution. We'll support your growth with regular code reviews, pairing with experienced engineers and ongoing feedback from your tech lead.
Nice to have
• Familiarity with TDD and shift-left testing
• Exposure to mobile E2E tools like Maestro, Detox or Appium
• Awareness of CI/CD pipelines, automation and feature flags
• Experience contributing to an App Store or Google Play release
• Familiarity with crash reporting, logging and monitoring tools
Your life at MECCA
We're singularly focused on our #CustomerFirst mantra, and we know that wouldn't be possible without an incredible team guided by our values. We're solutions focused, innovative, collaborative and adaptable, and we have a bit of fun along the way.
Some of the perks:
• Professional development programs and first-class digitised learning
• Health and wellbeing initiatives
• Reward and recognition programs
• Access to bonus and incentive programs
• Quarterly product allowance
• Generous discount for you and your immediate family (subject to company policy)
To support your growth and learning, this role involves close collaboration with the team and requires four days per week in our Richmond office.
