Jr. Linux Systems Admin

The Jr. Linux Systems Administrator within the College of Engineering (CoE), under the guidance of senior staff, performs routine operational activities, including installing, configuring, operating, maintaining, and supporting systems owned and operated in a multi-OS environment.
The role uses and contributes to systems management tools such as RHEL Satellite, Uyuni, and Ansible, and assists with projects that support and improve infrastructure and services. The Jr. Linux Systems Administrator performs basic troubleshooting and escalates complex issues, assists in managing the security of the computing infrastructure, provides technical support, and assists with the development and implementation of innovative solutions that enhance instruction and research.
This position ensures adherence to University and College policies and meets all compliance and reporting requirements across the University, College, departments, and centers, as needed. Work is guided by the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) best practice framework to maintain the availability, security, and performance of infrastructure systems.

This position may require on-call availability or extended work hours if needed.


Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate has experience administering and supporting computers in a professional IT environment, troubleshooting IT software and services, and providing end-user IT support. Experience working with Microsoft Active Directory, Windows, and related technologies is expected, along with experience writing scripts and performing automation tasks. The candidate should have experience investigating system security incidents and administering at least one Linux distribution such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, or Debian. Experience with shell scripting and/or configuration management software such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, or Salt is also required, as is experience using tools like RHEL Satellite, Uyuni, or Foreman/Katello. Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V is preferred. The role requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, climb stairs, and demonstrate good dexterity. Experience with ITIL v3 Foundations and working in or contributing to a diverse environment is also desired.

The target hiring range for this job profile is $24.76 to $32.33/hr.

The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
