Are you enthusiastic about the energy transition and global finance? Are you interested in the practical application of artificial intelligence? Join ING’s Energy Sector Coverage team and gain hands-on experience in one of the most strategic and impactful sectors of the global economy.

As part of the Energy Sector Coverage team, you will work in a dynamic, international environment with abundant opportunities to learn and grow. This role offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of banking services and the energy sector while exploring how AI and digital tools can support the day-to-day activities of a client-facing banking team. You will have a chance to build a network within ING and across the broader banking landscape.

Alongside supporting internal analyses and live transactions, you will contribute to a dedicated applied-AI project. This may involve developing simple prototypes or agents, and helping the team incorporate successful solutions into its working practices.

The Team
Energy Sector Coverage team is a global specialist sector coverage team sitting at the heart of ING Wholesale Banking. The team focuses on origination activities, advising and financing clients across the full energy value chain—from renewables and utilities to oil & gas and emerging energy technologies. As part of this dynamic and forward-looking team, you will contribute to high-impact transactions and strategic client relationships across Europe and beyond.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supporting client coverage activities including pitch preparation, market research, and financial analysis.
  • Working with team members to explore and test practical AI use cases, build simple proofs of concept using suitable AI or automation tools, evaluate outputs and incorporate feedback from potential users.
  • Collaborating with product teams (e.g. Lending, Capital Markets & Advisory, Transaction Services, Financial Markets) to support transaction execution.
  • Participating in team meetings and contributing to strategic discussions.

How to Succeed
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who meets the following criteria:

  • A Master’s or third-year Bachelor student enrolled at a Dutch university during the whole internship period.
  • Has a strong interest in the practical application of AI and digital tools in a business environment. Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot or comparable low-code tools is required. Experience using generative AI tools for research, studies or other personal projects is a plus.
  • Has an interest in energy, finance, and sustainability.
  • Analytical, proactive, and comfortable with experimenting, testing outputs, and tackling feedback.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written); Dutch is a bonus but not required.

During the duration of your internship at ING, it is mandatory to be enrolled at a Dutch university (or EU-university for EU-passport holders).

Rewards and Benefits
This is a great opportunity to train with highly skilled people who are experts in their field. You will do and learn a lot – not only about your specialized area and the bank, but also about yourself and whether this type of environment is right for you.
You will also benefit from:

  • A monthly internship allowance of 700 EUR based on 36 hours work week
  • Your own work laptop.
  • Hybrid working to combine focused work from home with collaborative office days; our team guidance is to be in the office at least 3 days per week.
  • Travel allowance from and to the office.
  • Exposure to ING’s global banking network and client base.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and networking opportunities within ING and the wider banking sector.
