Job Description

The Internal Control Specialist will be part of the Global Internal Controls COE team within the 3M Finance Controllers Global Process Owner organization. This role is responsible for supporting and executing monthly internal control assessments over RTR processes through structured control testing, issue identification, reporting, management alignment, and remediation review.

This professional will help ensure compliance with 3M Global Financial Standards, SOX requirements, and internal policies while driving continuous improvement across finance and accounting processes.

The Internal Control Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

• Perform monthly internal control testing over RTR processes in alignment with established testing methodologies and timelines.
• Assess compliance with 3M Global Financial Standards, SOX controls, and internal policies through integrated control testing.
• Identify control gaps, process deficiencies, and opportunities for improvement across RTR activities.
• Document testing results, observations, and issues in a clear, accurate, and timely manner.
• Partner with process owners, control owners, and management to communicate findings and support issue resolution.
• Support the development, tracking, and validation of remediation plans for identified control deficiencies.
• Perform remediation testing to confirm that corrective actions have been effectively implemented.
• Respond to technical questions related to internal controls, accounting processes, and control compliance requirements.
• Support the monitoring and reporting of key risk indicators.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote consistent control execution and continuous process improvement.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years of experience in internal audit, external audit, internal controls, finance, accounting, or a related area.
• Fluent English proficiency, equivalent to B2 level or higher, including reading, writing, and speaking skills.
• Strong understanding of internal controls and financial control environments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Client-service mindset with a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with stakeholders across functions, levels, and geographies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a global finance organization.
• Experience with a Big Four accounting or consulting firm.
• Experience performing, testing, and evaluating internal controls over financial reporting.
• Experience working with SOX-regulated entities and/or evaluating SOX controls.
• Knowledge of the COSO Framework and U.S. GAAP.
• Experience supporting or leading process improvement initiatives.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
