About the internship
We are delighted to provide a ground-breaking opportunity for an Intern to join our Engineering team in Eindhoven, Netherlands. Within Thermo Fisher Scientific, we create workflow solutions to tailored for customer use cases. One such workflow is single particle analysis, which acquires a large number of images exposed with a low electron dose, assembles them in a 3D model from which the chemical structure of the targeted particle is extracted. This is used to understand the structure of small particles, such as a virus, and helps in finding drugs / vaccines to treat / prevent diseases caused by them.
One of the applications used in the single-particle analysis workflow is Smart EPU, which guides users to acquire images under the best conditions for 3D reconstruction. In this project, we aim to extend the Smart EPU solution with a Generative AI Assistant to enable new users to navigate through the complex procedures of the microscopy and focus on the biology challenges they have. The assistant provides context-aware guidance and is meant to enable even novice users to perform tasks that otherwise would require a power user.
Project goals
- Extend on the existing Gen AI on-prem LLMs to construct chat agents for LifeScience applications, strictly adhering to secure guardrails and reducing hallucinations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to successfully implement innovative solutions.
- Transfer an existing proof of concept to the MSD R&D environment
- Explore existing the GenAI pipeline evaluation
- Evaluate 3rd party large language models by means of synthetic data generation and feedback from application specialists
- Find options to reduce response hallucinations
- Improve Retrieval Response Times (e.g., by profiling Docgraph to improve dilation performance)
- Improve Inference Response Times
- Evaluate existing implementations for Guardrails
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a Masters's or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to solve complex problems.
- Experience with Gen AI technologies and on-prem LLMs is a plus.
- Outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Ambitious attitude with a passion for learning and innovation.
