The Role

This is a full-time summer internship based in Cambridge, MA from June 7, 2027 – August 20, 2027. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD/ScD student to join our Infectious Disease Epidemiology team, providing a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in real-world epidemiologic research, vaccine development, and decision-making processes to support vaccine development programs for Moderna’s portfolio of vaccines for infectious respiratory viruses (influenza, RSV, SARS-CoV-2), gastrointestinal viruses (norovirus), and others.

 

Here’s What You’ll Do

• Gain exposure to the role of Epidemiology in vaccine development, supporting clinical trial conduct and post-marketing observational research

• Lead and execute epidemiologic analyses on disease burden of infectious diseases and related health outcomes, including study design, data analysis, and interpretation of results

• Communicate findings effectively through data visualization, reports, and presentations to cross-functional teams and leadership

• Engage with cross-functional teams, including Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR), and Real-World Evidence Analytics

• Contribute to regular cross-functional discussions on evidence generation strategies for infectious disease programs, shaping research priorities and decision-making

 

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in a PhD or ScD program in Epidemiology or a closely related discipline.

• Strong background in epidemiology, biostatistics

• Experience with SAS, R, STATA, or similar is a plus

The salary range for this role is $20.00 - $60.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
