Mō te Tūranga | About the Role 

We sat down with our Colleague Digital tīma, and they let us know the following about the tūranga (role).  

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year? 

You’ll join one of our Colleague Digital teams, creating a new Document Management platform, with an initial focus on Lending document generation. This new experience is using target state technology and is intuitive and simple. We are proud of our relentless focus on delivering the best banker experience so our bankers can delight our customers. 

What is the tīma culture and environment like? 

We're a vibrant mix of talented folks from all walks of life, coming together to innovate and collaborate in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We have a focus on being Engineering Led and our Product teams are passionate about building the right thing and building it right. 

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? 

In my time at BNZ, creating a Document Management platform is one of the most ambitious strategic programmes we have undertaken to improve our banker experience. With this backing, we have an opportunity to really shift the experience, giving our bankers modern, resilient and user-friendly platforms alongside the simplification of products and business process to make it much easier to serve our ngā kiritaki brilliantly. 

What attributes will this person display in order to be successful in this tūranga?  

• Experienced Java developer (at an intermediate level): Practical experience delivering enterprise applications. 

• Excellent communication and collaboration: Ability to clearly communicate ideas and designs to a diverse set of stakeholders. 

• Operational Excellence: Monitor and resolve production incidents. Ensure systems remain current, resilient and meet Critical Hygiene Factors. 

What specific tech skills would be beneficial? 

• Back End Development (Essential): RESTful APIs, Java Spring Boot  / Batch / Cloud. 

• Front End Development (Desirable): React, TypeScript, JavaScript, NodeJS and familiar with JSON & YAML. 

• Experience with relational database and database transactions. 

• Experience with testing frameworks, Junit, Jest & Playwright. 

• Experience with containerisation, kubernetes. 

• Experience building and deploying code via CI/CD pipelines. DevOps experience. 

• Experience managing and configuring AWS in Terraform.
