The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication (NQSC) at High Point University invites applications for a full-time Instructor position beginning August 2027. We seek a collegial, student-centered teacher who can teach across both the media production curriculum and core communication courses. The ideal candidate is able to teach in more than one specific area of Communication, as NQSC offers seven undergraduate majors: Game Design, Advertising, Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Media Production, Multimedia Journalism, Sport Management, Sports Media, and Social Media and Digital Communication.

Appointment & Load

  • Full-time Instructor appointment on a 9-month contract, with the opportunity for summer teaching.
  • Standard teaching load is 4/4 (four courses per semester).
  • At least half of the assigned courses each semester will be in Media Production; the remaining courses will be in Communication, including Human Communication and Communication Law and Ethics, among others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Media Production and in Communication, based on program needs and the candidate’s areas of expertise.
  • Contribute to instruction across more than one area of the Communication curriculum as needed.
  • Develop and update courses and applied projects aligned with contemporary industry standards.
  • Contribute to student recruitment and retention (e.g., open houses, admitted-student events, program showcases).
  • Participate in service to the department, school, and university in addition to teaching obligations.
  • Maintain technical and pedagogical currency; demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies, tools, and approaches in support of teaching responsibilities.
  • As opportunities arise and subject to program needs, teach study-abroad/away courses.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Media Production, Communication, or a closely related field by the start date.
  • Experience and ability to teach undergraduate courses in Media Production.
  • Experience and ability to teach foundational Communication courses, such as Human Communication and Communication Law and Ethics.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaborate in a fast-paced, team-oriented academic environment.
  • Evidence of excellence (or clear potential) in university-level teaching, including the ability to create all-encompassing, engaging, and rigorous learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (e.g., MFA, Ph.D.) in a relevant field.
  • University-level teaching experience and a student-centered learning approach.
  • Ability to teach in more than one specific area of Communication (e.g., Advertising, Public Relations and Strategic Communication, Game Design, Multimedia Journalism, Sport Management, Sports Media, or Social Media and Digital Communication).
  • Professional media-production experience aligned with current industry practice.
  • Experience with committee work, program development, or other service contributions.
