THE WORK:

  • You’ll perform independent design assurance reviews of mechanical engineering deliverables prepared by the EoR and major equipment suppliers for utility-scale CCGT projects.
  • You’ll review mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment specifications, data sheets, calculations, equipment layouts, piping designs, line lists, valve specifications, vendor drawings, technical bid evaluations, and other design deliverables for technical completeness, consistency, constructability, operability, and compliance with project requirements.
  • You’ll support our clients by providing technical oversight of major CCGT mechanical systems and interfaces, including gas turbines, HRSGs, steam turbine systems, condensate and feedwater systems, condenser and circulating water systems, cooling systems, fuel gas systems, auxiliary steam, compressed air, water treatment, chemical feed, fire protection, and other balance-of-plant systems.
  • You’ll evaluate design interfaces and battery limits between OEM equipment, EoR-designed systems, balance-of-plant packages, and construction work packages to identify gaps, conflicts, and integration risks before they affect field execution or commissioning.
  • You’ll review Requests for Information (RFIs), technical queries, design deviations, field change notices, and proposed scope changes and provide owner-side recommendations regarding technical acceptability, cost/schedule implications, and required follow-up.
  • You’ll review Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), quality observations, and field installation issues; evaluate proposed dispositions and corrective actions; and support development of technically sound mitigation plans in coordination with the EoR, construction team, OEMs, and project leadership.
  • You’ll support constructability reviews and field walkdowns to verify that design intent, access, maintainability, equipment clearances, piping routing, lifting/maintenance requirements, and system interfaces are appropriately addressed.
  • You’ll support Management of Change (MOC) by evaluating mechanical scope changes, identifying downstream design and construction impacts, and helping ensure affected drawings, specifications, calculations, schedules, costs, and commissioning documents are updated.
  • You’ll support system completion, turnover, commissioning, startup, and performance testing by reviewing system boundaries, test packages, punch items, temporary configurations, vendor requirements, and technical issues affecting readiness.
  • You’ll collaborate with civil/structural, electrical, I&C, construction, commissioning, project controls, commercial, and operations-readiness teams to resolve multidisciplinary design and field issues.
  • You’ll document design assurance findings, maintain technical issue/action logs, support risk identification and mitigation, and provide clear technical recommendations to Project Management and client leadership.
  • You’ll promote safe design and construction practices and identify engineering conditions that could create safety, reliability, operability, maintainability, environmental, or asset-performance risk.
  • Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite in St. Louis, Missouri, with our clients and project partners to enable delivery and cultivate strong client relationships.
  • HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience supporting large capital projects in power generation or process industries such as oil & gas, LNG, refining, chemicals, petrochemicals, or similar facilities
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing mechanical engineering designs for large, complex industrial facilities through engineering, procurement, construction, and/or commissioning phases
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, valves, piping materials, and related balance-of-plant systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards such as ASME, API, NFPA, ANSI, and other standards relevant to utility-scale power generation
  • Ability to read and critically evaluate P&IDs, equipment arrangements, piping drawings, vendor drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and engineering change documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate technical problems, develop practical recommendations, and communicate effectively with EoR engineers, contractors, OEMs, construction personnel, commissioning teams, and client stakeholders
  • Ability to perform field walkdowns/observations on foot across active construction areas and moderate to rough terrain and to comply with project PPE and site safety requirements
  • BONUS POINTS TO HAVE:

    • Direct engineering, design assurance, construction, or commissioning experience on utility-scale combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) or simple-cycle gas generation projects
    • Experience working in an Owner’s Engineer, Owner’s Representative, EPCM, or independent design assurance role
    • Experience reviewing Engineer of Record (EoR) deliverables and managing technical interfaces across OEMs, EPC contractors, construction contractors, and owner teams
    • Experience with projects executed under EPC, EPCM, multi-prime, or owner-managed contracting models
    • Experience supporting constructability reviews, system turnover, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, as applicable
    • Familiarity with digital engineering/document management and project delivery platforms such as Bluebeam, Autodesk/AutoCAD, Navisworks, BIM/3D model review tools, Procore, or equivalent
