Hilcorp offers field and office internships to students based upon previous experience and current course work.

Essential Job Responsibilities: 

  • Freshmen students (Field I internships) will be exposed to daily field operations as well as facility construction, workover rig operations, drilling rig operations, and coiled tubing operations.  They will work a 7-7 schedule (7 days on, 7 days off) and 12 hour days. While working they will live in an offshore facility where lodgings and meals are provided by company. The expected graduation date of a Field I intern would be Spring 2030. There are two locations : Louisiana offshore and Alaska offshore. For Louisiana,  

  • Louisiana : Students are required to provide transportation to Venice, Louisiana at the beginning of every week-long hitch.  They would complete 4-5 weeklong hitches over the course of the summer, and have an orientation in Houston, Texas before showing up to the field.  

  • Alaska Offshore : Interns will have an orientation in Anchorage, arriving the day before. They will go out to the field the following day to start the hitch. Housing is recommended at UAA. Students will report weekly to hangar for transportation to platform. 

  • Sophomore students (Field II internship) will be exposed to the same operations but will also work on and present an engineering project for the second half of the summer that can range from optimizing facilities to optimizing and implementing secondary recovery equipment.  At the completion of the internship, students will have a better understanding of oilfield fluid types, processing, and handling; artificial lift methods, the importance of volumes and pressures, and the production path from reservoir to sales.They will work a 5-2 schedule (5 day work week and 2 day weekend) with a 10 hour day. This understanding will yield a distinct advantage in their petroleum classes. The expected graduation date of a Field II intern would be Spring 2029. 

  • Junior level students and above (Office internship) will be eligible for an office internship working with one of our asset teams.  Office interns will conduct reservoir studies that will include analyzing well logs, working with a geologist to draft structure and net pay maps, managing pressure and production databases, and analyzing that data to quantify the oil and gas reserves of the project.  Interns will also evaluate the economics of projects, research well files, create wellbore diagrams, and work with operations to create the workover procedure for the project they work on.  The internship will include presentations throughout the summer to management for project approvals as needed.  Past intern projects have included single field studies, recomplete proposals, and drill wells.  Interns then oversee the approved project in the field if possible. They will work an 8 hour, 5 day week in the office. The location will be in the Corporate office in Houston or Alaska (1-2 spots company wide). The expected graduation date of a Field II intern would be Spring 2028.

Qualifications: 

  • Applicant must have full summer available. 

  • Intern should have an interest in pursuing a career in the oil & gas industry.  

  • 3.0 or higher GPA 

  • Able to provide your own transportation to and from assigned work location.
