Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Level 2 HVAC Mechanic to provide support to our Aerospace Structures team located in Melbourne, Florida. This position is on-site, working a 9/80 schedule, covering first shift, 6:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Essential Functions

  • Installs, services, modifies, rebuilds, and repairs air-conditioning and refrigeration systems and equipment in an industrial or commercial establishment in accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations
  • Performs periodic inspections to locate and determine causes of equipment malfunctions
  • Conducts maintenance programs to prevent failure of such equipment as compressors, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, water-source heat pumps, VAVs, fan-powered boxes, air handlers, CRAC units, electrical controls, pumps, heating equipment, etc.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots system malfunctions, then performs the appropriate HVAC system repairs
  • Charges air-conditioning systems with refrigerant and checks/tests for leaks
  • Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork; overhauls equipment
  • Receives and executes work orders through a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) to maintain accurate records
  • Occasionally assists other trades, including electrical, plumbing, maintenance mechanics, etc.
  • All other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2 HVAC Mechanic

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of experience servicing HVAC equipment in an industrial and/or large commercial setting
  • Must be able to transfer or obtain and maintain a final adjudicated Top-Secret U.S. Government security clearance and any program accesses required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company
  • Must possess a Universal EPA License
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, with the ability to safely operate a large box truck weighing 10,001–26,000 lbs
  • Must be capable of lifting 50+ lbs, climbing a ladder, reaching overhead, bending down, using both hands, and withstanding extreme temperature and/or humidity
  • Must have the flexibility to occasionally work off shifts and weekends when required; position may be flexed to second shift

Preferred Qualifications

  • Maximo experience
  • Experience working on hydronic cooling/heating systems, including air- and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, air elimination, and control
  • Experience operating within a building automation control system (e.g., Trane Tracer Ensemble and Tridium Niagara) to troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions and comfort cooling issues
  • Vocational and/or post-secondary education
  • Active, in-scope DoD Top-Secret or SCI clearance
  • Experience working in classified spaces and/or in engineering and manufacturing environments
  • Experience modifying/installing ductwork
  • Welding and/or pipefitting experience/certification
  • Experience with moving heavy equipment (pallet jack, wheel truck, forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Positive customer service experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $52,700.00 - $87,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
