HVAC Maintenance Mechanic

What you’ll do in this position:

An HVAC Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for support of auxiliary facilities, on-campus housing, and staff and tenants by providing preventive and corrective maintenance as well as response to service requests.  This would include the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and associated mechanical, plumbing, and electrical ancillary devices. Provide support for Housing Maintenance Mechanics by assisting in general building repairs and troubleshooting. This role include on-call After Hours

The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic could also include (depending on experience) training, mentoring, and onboarding of new hires. They may work with and coordinate subcontractors, vendors, college departments and building representatives as needed. This position is expected to have advanced troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair skills and knowledge of housing HVAC, general maintenance, and mechanical systems. This position will demonstrate an elevated work ethic, attitude, level of emotional intelligence, and knowledge of campus housing.

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
  • Have a valid driver’s license for day and night driving.
  • 2 - 5 years of experience performing HVAC maintenance tasks for multiple building components and systems, including but not limited to controls, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical.
  • HVAC Training Certification, trade school education, or equivalent experience.
  • Requires knowledge of and skills to maintain and repair building HVAC components and systems
  • Has a valid Utah Drivers' License 
  • Must be an independent worker without the need for constant supervision and be able to make decisions alone
  • Requires knowledge of and skills to maintain and repair building HVAC components and systems
  • Skills to work with numerous computer applications
  • Has the ability to manage a parts inventory
  • Has excellent interpersonal, communication, organization
  • Ability to manage work processes and preventive maintenance scheduling, using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • This position requires the applicant to pass a physical and lift test. Please see requirements below:

Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions

Occasional need to lift panels or equipment in the 20-50 lbs. range.  Rare occasions may require assistance in lifting or manipulation of items heavier than 50 lbs. including the use of a large auger on occasion.

Preferred

  • 5- 10 years of experience performing HVAC maintenance tasks for multiple building components and systems, including but not limited to controls, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant certified.
  • 2 - 4years of technical training in a related field
  • Ability to manage work processes and preventive maintenance scheduling, using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Plumbing license 
  • Electrical license 
  • Contractor’s license

Typical Starting Pay:

$28.50 to $41.75 /hourly

$59,500 to $87,000 annually

The actual compensation offered will take into consideration internal equity and may vary based on the candidate’s job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and other relevant factors. Candidates with very significant work-related experience may receive an offer higher than the posted typical range.
