Our team is looking for an HSE Technician to join our team in Chatsworth, CA. This position reports to Ontic Chatsworth’s HSE Manager and is responsible for providing daily operational HSE support. The HSE department implements Ontic Chatsworth’s health, safety and environmental programs to ensure a positive, healthy, safe and incident-free work environment and is responsible for the compliance by Ontic Chatsworth with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies. Represent the HSE Department in assisting with carrying out initiatives related to HSE.

As an HSE Technician, you will:

·       Possess strong ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees and managers at all levels of the organization while maintaining extreme confidentiality.

·       Perform hazardous and non-hazardous waste collection for entire site including Production, Chemical Storage Area and other areas and transfer to Hazardous Waste Storage area or appropriate areas as designated.

·       Sorting, packing and labeling hazardous and universal waste. Schedule hazardous waste shipments on a periodic basis.

·       Maintain proper labeling, container management and adequate housekeeping in the hazardous waste storage and satellite areas by conducting weekly inspections and correcting deficiencies.

·       Inspect and assist in filling in the following: First Aid Cabinets, AED, Emergency Eye Wash Stations, Safety Showers.

·       Participate as a member of hazardous materials response team. Respond to clean up of spills.

·       Comply with and enforce all company HSE policies and procedures to include the provisions of the HSE Management System.

·       Required to maintain First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification as act as a first responder at the site.

·       Ability to multi-task and effectively work with competing priorities.

·       May participate in Incident Response alone or in group setting.

·       Assist with Safety Committee meetings.

·       Maintain chemical inventory. Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) by ensuring current SDS is available for each chemical in MSDS Online and assigned the appropriate cabinet location. Archive any old SDSs.

·       Assist with follow up of hazard corrective action/preventive actions.

·       Other administrative duties as assigned (Train Track data entry, Purchase Requisitions for supplies, PPE vouchers)

To be considered for the HSE Technician opening, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:

• Requires exercise of judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Ability to work independently and as a team member. Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to meet goals while working under limited supervision.
• Good communication and facilitation skills with the ability to interface various levels of site management, possessing a thorough command of the English language, written as well as verbal.
• Ability to learn environmental/safety regulations and guidelines.
• Proficient in data entry and recordkeeping. Microsoft Office Suite experience is desired.
• Obtain/maintain HAZWOPER certification.
• Obtain/maintain First Aid / CPR / AED certification
• Ability to wear a respirator.
• Maintain valid California driver’s license.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

BS degree in environmental and occupational health required or AS degree in environmental studies, occupational safety, a physical science or related field plus 2 years’ experience in hazardous waste handling and management, industrial safety, or environmental / sampling.

Compensation Pay Range
