About this HSE Manager role at Hempel
Great safety cultures don't happen by accident. They're built by people who care.
At Crown Paints, we know that creating a safe and supportive workplace is about more than policies, procedures and ticking boxes. It's about people looking out for one another, having the confidence to speak up and knowing that everyone has a part to play in getting home safely at the end of the day.
We're looking for an experienced HSE Manager to join our manufacturing team in Hull, someone who enjoys being out on the shop floor, building relationships and turning health, safety and environmental standards into everyday good practice.
This is an opportunity to make a real difference at one of our key manufacturing sites. You'll work closely with our Operations team, helping to shape a positive safety culture where people feel involved, supported and empowered to do the right thing.
If you're passionate about making workplaces safer, enjoy working with people and want to see the impact of your work first-hand, we'd love to hear from you.
Your influence. Our people. A safer future.
As our HSE Manager, you'll take the lead on day-to-day health, safety and environmental activities at our Hull site, working alongside our Senior HSE Manager UK & ROI and a wider team who share your commitment to doing things well.
You'll have the opportunity to influence how we work, challenge existing practices and introduce improvements that make a genuine difference. From supporting colleagues on the production floor to working with site leadership, you'll play an important part in making safety everyone's priority.
Here's what you'll be getting involved in:
- Making safety part of everyday life: Work with colleagues and leaders across the site to build awareness, encourage open conversations and create a culture where everyone takes ownership of safety.
- Driving continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to improve our working environment, strengthen HSE practices and support our ongoing journey towards operational excellence.
- Keeping us safe and compliant: Ensure our site meets relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, including COSHH, RIDDOR, PUWER and LOLER.
- Learning from every experience: Lead and support incident investigations, helping teams identify root causes, share lessons learned and put meaningful improvements in place.
- Supporting our high standards: Help maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and BES 6001 requirements, working closely with colleagues across Operations.
- Giving people the confidence to work safely: Identify training needs, provide practical guidance and make sure colleagues have the knowledge and support they need.
- Connecting people and sharing progress: Work with site leadership, our wider HSE community and external regulatory bodies, ensuring important information is communicated clearly and effectively.
Know your stuff, bring your ideas and make your mark on the H&S culture.
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical HSE knowledge with a practical, people-focused approach. Someone who can have a confident conversation with senior leaders one minute and be out on the production floor supporting colleagues the next.
You'll understand that lasting improvements come from bringing people with you, not simply telling them what needs to change.
We'd love to hear from you if you bring:
- Experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental role within manufacturing, production or a similar operational environment, chemical manufacturing would be preferred.
- NEBOSH Diploma qualified.
- A solid understanding of UK HSE legislation and how to apply it in a busy working environment.
- Experience supporting risk assessments, incident investigations, audits and management systems.
- Knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, with an understanding of environmental compliance.
- The confidence to challenge constructively, influence decisions and build positive working relationships at all levels.
- A proactive mindset, a collaborative approach and a genuine desire to help people work safely.
Experience within chemical manufacturing, paints or coatings would be valuable, but it's not essential. We're equally interested in the experience, perspective and fresh ideas you could bring from other manufacturing environments.
And if you don't meet every requirement but feel you could make a real contribution, we'd still encourage you to apply.
Why Crown Paints? Because the people behind the paint matter.
There's a lot that goes into making great paint, but it's our people who make it possible.
At Crown Paints, you'll be joining a business with a proud heritage, well-known brands and colleagues who care about the work they do. We believe that everyone should feel respected, included and able to contribute, and we're committed to creating an environment where different experiences, ideas and perspectives are valued.
In this role, you'll have the chance to work with people across our manufacturing operations, influence meaningful change and continue developing your career as part of a wider organisation.
Most importantly, your work will have a direct impact on the people around you, helping to ensure that everyone can do their best work in a safe, supportive environment.
Ready to make a difference that really matters?
If you're looking for a role where you can use your expertise, build strong relationships and make a lasting impact on workplace safety, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and help us make Crown Paints an even safer place to work.
We're committed to building an inclusive workplace and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. If you need any adjustments or additional support during the recruitment process, please let us know.
