About this Histotechnologist Sr – Anatomic Pathology Core Lab – Days role at VCU Health
The Histotechnologist Senior serves as a technical specialist and resource in the histopathology laboratory. The position performs complex histology and immunohistochemistry procedures, provides technical oversight and troubleshooting support, and assists with quality assurance, validation activities, and regulatory compliance. The Histotechnologist Senior provides mentorship and training to staff and learners and supports daily laboratory operations under the direction of the Histology Supervisor.
Essential Job Statements
Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical specialist in the routine histopathology laboratory, special stain or IHC areas. Serve as a technical resource for the team and consult with pathologists on unusual or complex cases.
Advanced Histology Techniques: Responsible for performing and demonstrating competency in complex histologic procedures, staining methodologies, and immunohistochemical techniques.
Clinical and Technical Practice: Perform routine and non-routine histology activities, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry.
Quality Control and Troubleshooting: Oversee, evaluate, perform, and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and associated corrective actions according to policy and procedure.
Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance: Assist in maintaining laboratory accreditation standards, quality assurance programs, quality control documentation, and compliance with CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements.
Training and Teaching: Provide technical teaching, training and guidance to Histotechnologists, students and residents in histology techniques and instrumentation.
Inventory Management: Monitors laboratory supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels.
Operational Support: Assist the Histology Supervisor with monitoring daily histology operations, prioritizing workloads, and delegating tasks.
Validation and Verification: Participate in the validation and verification of new control materials, reagents,antibodies, and testing methodologies.
Miscellaneous Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned.
Patient Population: Neonates (0-4 weeks), Infant (1-12 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescents (13-17 years), Adults (18-64 years)., Geriatrics (65 years and older)
Employment Qualifications
Required Education: Associate’s Degree or higher in a biological science, or completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology program.
Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science
Licensing/ Certification
Licensure/Certification Required: Certified as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology or an equivalent certification agency.
Licensure/Certification Preferred: N/A
Minimum Qualifications
Years and Type of Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experience in Histology.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: N/A
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Experience in training, quality improvement, validation studies, or immunohistochemistry.
Working Conditions: Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment. Compensation Range
$30.01 - $46.51Actual salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.
