Job Description:

Job Purpose: The Health and Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the implementation of World Vision Ethiopia’s health and nutrition program in targeted woredas of the Amhara Region. The role works closely with field teams, government health offices, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure quality, coordinated, and responsive programme implementation.

The position provides technical support, monitors programme progress and quality, conducts field visits, identifies gaps, and works with teams and partners to address implementation challenges. S/he actively participates in health and nutrition coordination and cluster meetings at woreda, zonal, and regional levels, representing World Vision and sharing programme updates, priorities, and challenges.

During emergencies, the coordinator supports timely planning and delivery of life-saving health and nutrition interventions, including coordination of emergency medical kits and essential health supplies from sources such as WHO, UNICEF, and World Vision warehouses to health facilities. The role also maintains strong collaboration with government authorities, NGOs, UN agencies, and health and nutrition partners to strengthen coordination, avoid duplication, and ensure that services reach affected communities in a timely and effective manner.


Major Responsibilities:


Establish and Supervise Health and Nutrition Activities:

  • Work with other sectors to assess needs, identify priority areas, and propose appropriate health and nutrition activities and locations.
  • Contribute to concept notes, proposals, budgets, and project designs, ensuring health and nutrition activities are practical, integrated, and responsive to community needs.
  • Lead and support the quality implementation of key health and nutrition services, including CMAM/IMAM, IYCF, IMNCI, ANC/PNC, essential medicines, and other emergency health and nutrition interventions.
  • Develop and regularly update DIPs, procurement plans, supply plans, and activity schedules in line with project priorities and budgets.
  • Work with MEAL teams to develop monitoring tools, track progress, and use programme data to identify gaps and improve implementation.
  • Support and, when needed, lead rapid health and nutrition assessments and provide contextual information to inform programme planning and response.
  • Strengthen community mobilization, referral, and linkage systems to improve early identification and access to health and nutrition services.
  • Prepare timely procurement requests based on approved BoQs and budgets and monitor the availability, consumption, and replenishment of medicines, nutrition commodities, and other supplies in collaboration with Supply Chain, Logistics, Hub, and technical teams.
  • Conduct regular field visits and supportive supervision to identify challenges, provide technical guidance, and follow up on agreed actions.
  • Coordinate with government, clusters, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure activities are aligned, complementary, and responsive to changing needs.

People and Staff Development (Support staff to perform well, grow professionally, and work effectively as a team by providing regular guidance, coaching, mentoring, and performance support.)

  • Participate in recruitment and selection of staff in line with World Vision policies and procedures, working closely with P&C and relevant managers.
  • Support staff through regular performance discussions and appraisals, helping them set clear and realistic work and development goals.
  • Work with FCO program manager and team members to develop, review, and follow up on individual work and action plans.
  • Identify staff training and development needs through regular discussions, field observations, performance reviews, and skills assessments.
  • Organize and provide practical training, on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and supportive supervision based on identified needs.
  • Hold regular team and one-to-one meetings to discuss progress, challenges, priorities, and staff support needs.
  • Encourage open communication, teamwork, learning, and a positive working environment where staff feel supported and accountable.
  • Follow up on staff leave, attendance, and other personnel matters in collaboration with P&C and provide timely support when issues arise.

Develop and Direct Operations


  • Contribute to the development of the WVE Health & Nutrition strategy, and roll out strategy as required
  • Analysis and follow up of the health and nutrition situation in the region- outbreaks, health and nutrition status and other issues affecting the health and nutrition status of the population.
  • Contributing to the preparation of new project proposals (text, budget, BoQ and HR needs) in collaboration with other other sectors’ PMs, Coordinators and Nutrition & health Technical Advisor/specialists
  • Ensure accurate and quality monthly reporting (MMR narrative and quantitative report, Sit Reports
  • Ensure that staff are adhering to the reporting and recording system (beneficiary cards, register books, daily, weekly, monthly reports)- accuracy and timely submission
  • Contribute to donor reporting (frequency according to the donor requirements) by compiling and writing of nutrition narrative on progress while ensuring accurate data
  • Presenting the Health and Nutrition programme to partners (the authorities, donors etc)

 

Internal and External Coordination:

  • Participate in the different external coordination mechanisms at Regional, Zonal and woreda level.
  • Develop network of contacts at base level (INGOs, LNGOs, government, technical or scientific) to allow a smooth implementation of the project
  • Provide updates on WVE health and nutrition activities in the different external coordination meetings
  • Provide technical inputs according to WVE guidelines, positioning papers, and strategy in the external coordination mechanisms as well as technical working groups
  • Liaison with international and local partners regarding health and nutrition activities
  • Lead and provide support to health and nutrition team on external partners’ (including donor visits) field visits - represent WVE, development of briefing papers etc.
  • Share minutes of meetings attended including summary of action points
  • Ensure timely submission ENCU and Health Cluster report at national level/sub national level

Required Professional Experience:

  • Minimum five years working experience with NGOs in Emergency Health and Nutrition programs;  

Required Education, training, license,registration, and certification:

  • Master’s degree in public health or nutrition with clinical health background (degree in Public Health or Clinical Nursing) from accredited universities or health colleges

Certificates on:


  • Training on IMNCI/ICCM/FP/EPI and PHEM (surveillance)
  • ToT training in Acute Malnutrition 2019 revised guideline
  • ToT training in revised 2019 IMAM guideline
  • Integrated Pharmaceuticals Logistics System (IPLS)
  • Certificate of training on SPHERE standards
  • Trained on Family MUAC approach
  • Health and Nutrition Assessments/Survey ToT/basic training

 

Preferred knowledge and Qualifications:

  • WV’s disaster management cycle and Sphere standards
  • Knowledge and experience in management of outbreak disease (cholera, measles, malaria …)
  • Knowledge, training and experience in management of MAM and SAM with/without medical complication
  • Demonstrated skills in CMAM/IMAM program planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Experience in cascading family MUAC approach 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours, and out of assigned implementation area
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
  • Excellent training and facilitation skills, and Negotiation’s skills
  • Strong adherence to World Vision values;·      
  • Strong character traits, including emotional stability, adaptability, ability to handle stress, cultural and gender sensitivity and integrity;·      
  • Prepared to live and work in an remote and uncertain security environment

Travel and/or WorkEnvironmentRequirement:

  • Willingness to work in TSFP centers

Language Requirements:

  • English and knowledge of local language is advantageous
