Head of Marine, Philippines

In this high-impact role, you will use your deep technical expertise and strong market relationships to shape the future of our marine business. You will report directly to the Head of Marine, APAC.

How you will create an impact

In this role, you will:

• Profit and Portfolio Management

  • Own the profit center’s premium, growth and profitability targets.

  • Manage portfolio performance, underwriting results and risk appetite.

  • Monitor retention, new business, pricing, loss ratios and overall portfolio quality.

  • Ensure underwriting decisions are consistent with AIG’s guidelines and authority.

• Underwriting Leadership

  • Provide directions on complex or high-value risks and referrals.

  • Oversee the underwriting of new and renewal business.

  • Ensure the portfolio achieves profitable growth, rather than growth at any cost.

  • Work with Claims and Actuarial teams on portfolio performance and emerging risks.

• Broker & Client Relationships

  • Maintain senior relationships with key brokers and major clients.

  • Develop distribution strategies and identify new business opportunities.

  • Represent AIG in broker meetings and market events.

  • Strengthen AIG’s market profile and relationships with strategic producers.

• Business Development

  • Set and execute the profit center’s business plan.

  • Identify target accounts, new segments and product opportunities.

  • Drive cross-selling with other AIG profit centers.

  • Develop opportunities in Corporate, Major Accounts, Multinational and other strategic segments.

• People Management

  • Lead, coach and develop underwriters and other team members.

  • Set performance expectations and support succession planning.

  • Build technical underwriting capability within the team.

  • Promote collaboration and accountability.

• Strategy and Product Development

  • Identify opportunities to improve products, wordings and endorsements.

  • Develop broker-specific programs where appropriate.

  • Work with regional/APAC teams on strategic initiatives and new products.

• Governance and Risk

  • Ensure compliance with AIG underwriting policies, regulatory requirements and audit standards.

  • Manage underwriting authorities and referrals.

  • Ensure accurate management reporting and appropriate escalation of major underwriting issues.

What you’ll need to succeed

• University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Maritime Studies, or a related discipline.

• Extensive progressive commercial insurance experience with deep technical expertise specifically in marine underwriting.

• Deep comprehension of marine risk assessment, policy phrasing, international shipping operations, and local reinsurance structures.

• Proven track record of managing teams, coaching talent, and executing commercial strategies.

• Exceptional negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication competencies to engage executive-level clients and brokers.
