About this Head of Hardware role at Fuse Energy

Fuse Energy · Onsite · London, England, United Kingdom

Fuse Energy is an energy startup on a mission to make energy abundant and affordable, fast. We combine first-principles thinking with cutting-edge technology to build a radically better energy system.

We've raised over $200M from top-tier investors including Balderton, Lakestar, Accel, Creandum, Lowercarbon, Ribbit, 20VC, Hummingbird and Collaborative Fund, alongside strategic angels including Nico Rosberg and GPs behind Meta, Revolut, Spotify and Uber.

We're building a fully integrated energy company: developing our own solar, batteries and other generation projects, building our own hardware, improving and developing grid infrastructure, trading power in real time, using AI across the business, and installing distributed energy in homes. By selling directly to consumers we cut out the middleman, lower costs and pass the savings on to our customers.

We're hiring a versatile Head or Hardware with Electronics Design experience to develop connected energy devices. The role focuses on leading the hardware engineering function, from electronics and embedded to test and compliance, to deliver robust, scalable and reliable renewable energy hardware.

Requirements

  • Own the hardware engineering roadmap and lead the development of Fuse’s connected energy devices
  • Take products from prototype to mass production, ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and manufacturability
  • Lead all hardware engineering disciplines under one technical direction and architecture:
  • Own hardware safety and regulatory compliance across our markets (e.g., CE/UKCA, G98/G99, EMC)
  • Manage contract manufacturers, component suppliers, and test houses, and own supply chain resilience for critical components
  • Work closely with product, software, and operations leadership to identify high-impact hardware opportunities
  • Lead and grow our hardware engineering team across electronics, embedded, test and compliance, setting a high bar for hiring, mentoring and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • Strong hardware engineering background with 10+ years of experience in electronics design engineering, including at least 3 years leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Deep experience taking hardware products from concept into volume production
  • Proficiency in electronics design, from schematics and PCB layout to board bring-up and debugging
  • Understanding of embedded systems, firmware, and IoT connectivity (e.g., MCUs, communication protocols, OTA updates)
  • Experience with power electronics or grid-connected energy hardware (e.g., inverters, batteries, EV chargers, solar)
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with software, product, and supply chain teams
  • Clear communication and an ability to prioritize for both speed of iteration and reliability

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and eligibility for equity
  • Biannual bonus scheme
  • Fully expensed tech to match your needs
  • Private health insurance
  • Breakfast and dinner allowance for office-based employees
