Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Group Lead, ICT Training Systems to lead a team supporting critical Defence training environments across Australia.

This role combines people leadership with strong technical oversight. You'll lead a team of engineers and ICT professionals responsible for delivering and maintaining complex training systems while partnering with internal stakeholders to develop technical solutions, support major projects, and contribute to future business opportunities.

Success in this role requires someone who has built credibility through hands-on ICT leadership, understands how to lead technical teams, and can effectively balance operational delivery with strategic objectives.

Description

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of ICT professionals supporting Defence training systems and services.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance across systems administration, ICT infrastructure and support services.
  • Ensure successful delivery of operational support, sustainment activities and ongoing system improvements.
  • Work closely with engineering, project and business leaders to develop technical solutions and support customer requirements.
  • Support bid and proposal activities by contributing technical expertise, solution development and resource planning.
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier relationships to ensure delivery outcomes and service quality expectations are achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, risk management activities and operational excellence across the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading technical engineering, ICT or systems administration teams.
  • Strong understanding of ICT infrastructure, system administration and support environments.
  • Experience managing technical resources, contractors and competing operational priorities.
  • Ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience contributing to technical solution development, project delivery or bid activities.
  • Strong communication, leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Australian Citizenship.
  • Ability to work onsite across Homebush and HMAS Watson locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within Defence or Defence industry environments.
  • Experience supporting training, simulation, mission or operational systems.
  • Understanding of Defence security, governance and accreditation requirements.
  • Experience managing complex ICT environments supporting critical operations.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications.

Location

  • Homebush, NSW and HMAS Watson, NSW.
  • This role requires regular onsite attendance, typically three days per week at HMAS Watson and one day per week at Homebush.
  • Some travel may be required based on operational and project requirements.

Security Requirements

As the Australian Department of Defence is a major client, applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain an Australian Defence Security Clearance. Australian Citizenship is required.
