JOB SUMMARY

Job Profile Summary

Serves as a senior geologist, oversseing and owning delivery of complex subsurface evaluations and integrity workstreams for ONEOK's underground gas and liquids storage and reserve assets. Provides technical leadership for drilling/solution mining support, down hole corrosion monitoring, integrity testing, shut-in testing, inventory verification, geological and geophysical evaluation and work over operations. Works independently under limited supervision, drives direct improvements to systems and workflows, and leads cross-functional collaboration to resolve complex well and cavern challenges. Works independently under limited oversight, leading complex engineering work and providing technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers. Influences technical decisions through expertise and experience.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Owns delivery of complex subsurface analyses and monitoring (cavern data, subsidence, integrity results, flow behavior, inventory verification) and provides actionable recommendations to leadership.
  • Leads technical evaluation and support for drilling, solution mining, and workover planning; develops/validates complex work plans and technical justifications.
  • Evaluates and resolves complex well and cavern integrity challenges through detailed interpretation of formation behavior, operational conditions, and material performance; drives root-cause investigation. [ONEOK Leve...uide Final | PDF]
  • Drives direct improvements to underground storage integrity processes, analysis methods, and reporting systems; standardizes best practices and strengthens data quality.
  • Collaborates across multiple teams/departments and may engage external parties on medium-to-high complexity matters requiring explanation, interpretation, and advising.
  • Supports regulatory interactions by providing technical input for rule interpretations, variances, drilling plans, permits, and compliance documentation; helps ensure alignment with standards and requirements.
  • Provides guidance, coaching, and training to junior staff; may delegate work and review work products for technical accuracy and completeness.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in geology, geologic engineering typically required, or an equivalent combination of formal education and the following job related experience

Work Experience

  • Typically requires at least 8-10 years of underground storage experience
  • Experience in use and function of office equipment including accessing computers and applicable software
  • Experience and training related to:
    • Underground storage activities
    • Company/governmental operating and safety procedures
    • Interpersonal/communication skills

  • Experience identifying, researching, evaluating, and prioritizing operational problems or specific situations and determining appropriate action/response
  • Experience researching and preparing project material and design specifications, contracts, agreements, budgets, and various reports, forms, and correspondence
  • Experience reading and interpreting governmental regulations, references, journals, construction plans, blueprints, contracts, manuals, reports, specifications, and correspondence
  • Experience interacting, negotiating, advising, and communicating effectively
  • Experience examining, testing, and evaluating new products, materials, and techniques
  • Experience developing information and making presentations to groups and individuals

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to: methods of project economic evaluation required
  • Ability to: apply math, algebraic formulas, statistical methods, and calculus
  • Skills in: Strong influence and communication skills; ability to guide technical discussions and mentor less experienced employees.
