Flood Control DistrictAbout the Position
The Flood Control District is looking for an energetic team member like you! The Floodplain Permit Plans Examiner reviews residential, commercial, and other construction plans to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance to floodplain regulations. In addition, you will provide customer service, manage critical parts of our permitting process, and maintain the records in our database system.
As a Floodplain Permit Plans Examiner, you will work with a team of Professional Engineers, engineer associates, and technicians to conduct a variety of tasks. This position also offers options for part-week teleworking, a 9/80 flex schedule, or flexible core business hours.

We Require
- Two years of experience reviewing construction plans for compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards
- High school diploma or GED
- Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
- Post-secondary education in Engineering, Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, or related fields
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
- Experience in GIS or mapping applications
- Knowledge of construction plans and/or drawings
- Experience in land development, construction, engineering, or planning
Job Contributions
- Review residential and commercial building civil/site plans to ensure compliance with the floodplain regulations, state statutes, and federal/state regulations
- Review aerial and floodplain maps to gather information to determine the level of additional review required for permit issuance
- Prepare comments related to development compliance with the floodplain regulations, and prepare documents for issuing flood use permits
- Function as a subject matter expert by displaying a thorough and deep understanding of the department's functions.
- Communicate with the public, other county employees, contractors, and engineers to explain and administer development requirements and regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period
- Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly, or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
- Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware
Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), Web-based GIS tools, Tyler Enterprise Permitting and Licensing, and ArcGIS Pro.
