Firmware Engineer Intern (100%)

Starting date: January 2027

Your role:

As an Firmware Engineer Intern, you will join our team to build and test embedded software in Rust. Depending on project needs and your interests, you will work on bare-metal firmware running on microcontrollers, on embedded Linux systems, or on both. This is a hands-on role at the intersection of hardware and software: you will write code that runs on real devices, bring it up on target hardware, and debug it with the tools that come with that territory.

What you will own:

Your responsibilities will focus on one or more of the following areas, based on project needs:

  • Writing, debugging and profiling embedded Rust firmware for microcontrollers (no_std, embedded-hal, and an async or RTOS-style framework such as Embassy or RTIC).
  • Implementing and integrating device drivers and communication layers over SPI, I²C, UART, USB, CAN or Ethernet.
  • Contributing to bootloader and firmware-update strategies, including memory layout, image validation and safe rollback.
  • Building data logging and data transport paths from the device to the host, from on-device storage to streaming interfaces.
  • Developing Rust software for embedded Linux targets: userspace services, kernel interfaces (sysfs, GPIO, IIO, V4L2), and cross-compilation for a custom Linux distribution.

Requirements

Your profile:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Embedded Systems or a related field — either in progress or recently completed
  • You have written Rust outside of a graded assignment — a side project, a contribution, anything you built because you wanted to. You don't need to be fluent; the embedded-specific parts you will pick up here.
  • Genuine interest in low-level software, and the willingness to open a datasheet and find the answer yourself.
  • Enough C or C++ to read a vendor SDK.
  • Good level of English. French or any additional language is an asse
