Job Description
Your Responsibilities:
As part of our development engineering expansion footprint, we are hiring Firmware Engineers from the fresh graduate pool to join our global Power Motion Business (PMB) development organisation in the Singapore Campus.
This is an entry-level role for graduates with a foundation in embedded systems, C/C++ programming and computer networking, and a interest firmware and real-time control systems. You will work under the guidance of experienced engineers. You will contribute to the development, and testing of embedded firmware subsystems. You will learn how to balance run-time performance, memory requirements, simplicity, correctness, reusability, reliability, security, and safety. You will learn to reuse existing internal or external firmware components, frameworks, and communication protocol libraries to shorten the product development cycle.
You will work with team members within the region and globally. You will report into the Power Motion Business (PMB) Singapore Engineering Manager in Singapore, with functional support and mentorship through the global development engineering team. You will report to the Firmware Security Manager, will work in hybrid, based in Singapore Office.
Your Responsibilities:
- Help analyse, designing, programming, debugging, and modifying firmware, and troubleshoot code for firmware applications, with guidance from senior engineers. Gain exposure to analogue and digital hardware and firmware operating systems.
- Contribute to one or more areas of embedded firmware for drives products: development of FW features, FW improvements, testing, and compliance with processes and standards.
- Support the design, and testing of firmware
- Apply object-oriented analysis and design principles and real-time development practices using C/C++, Python and scripting languages.
- Follow and help improve engineering processes and best practices, including code reviews, coding standards, and documentation.
- Support quality by maintaining the link between requirements and testing, and by writing unit and integration tests.
- Help investigate firmware anomalies together with the functional test team, customer support team, or other groups, and helps debug and resolve them.
- Keep learning about embedded firmware engineering and cybersecurity methodologies and technologies relevant to our industry through training, self-study, and seminars.
- Willingness to work in Agile and Scrum firmware development frameworks as the business demands.
- Build working relationships with colleagues, mentors, and main contacts across engineering departments.
- Work in a globally distributed team environment, growing from supporting tasks to managing well-defined modules.
The Essentials - You Will Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, with coursework or projects in embedded systems or firmware; fresh graduates.
- No prior full-time experience required. Experience in Internships, or final-year projects, or personal projects involving embedded C/C++, microcontrollers, real-time systems, or communication protocols are highly valued.
- We desire a working knowledge of Python or scripting languages, in addition to a good foundation in C/C++ programming and data structures.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
- Master's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering is an advantage but not required.
- Familiarity with Git or similar version control tools; exposure to tools such as Green Hills Integrity OS and Multi IDE, Jira, and Jama.
- Awareness of cybersecurity concepts for embedded and industrial products.
- Cybersecurity training or certification, or familiarity with security test tools such as Achilles and Burp Suite.
- Awareness of agile processes such as Scrum is desired. Familiarity with CIP and CIP Security protocols.
- Debugging skills, with attention to writing clean, maintainable code.
- Eagerness to learn, accept feedback, and take on new challenges, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a matrixed organisation.
- Demonstrate a customer-centric mindset to understand our internal and external customers.
