Court firearms coordinator, a specialized court staff member, manages and coordinates all functions of the Firearms Transfer Assistance Program (FTAP). This role typically works closely with judges, county courts, prosecutors, defense attorneys, law enforcement, and other court personnel and agencies to ensure that firearms transfer orders in domestic violence and intimate partner protective order cases are properly administered and recorded.

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Specialty Court Coordinator Supervisor. This position does not supervise.


  • Coordinates with Pima County Superior Court, Pima County Justice Court, and Tucson City Court facilitating the enforcement of judicial orders with firearms transfer provisions in high-risk domestic violence cases. 
  • Develop and perform processes and procedures to track the transfer of firearms to the appropriate law enforcement agencies based on the orders and requirements imposed by the individual courts. 
  • Works with various law enforcement agencies to facilitate the service of high-risk protective orders, and the enforcement of conditions of release in high-risk criminal cases. 
  • Works with Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse to coordinate the connection of advocates to high-risk victims in these cases.
  • Coordinates with community agencies, the courts, probation, and law enforcement to develop and facilitate outreach programs to the public on the topics of domestic violence and firearms. 
  • Plans and organizes trainings for law enforcement on the APRAIS risk assessment, and training for judicial officers and other court staff on risk factors in intimate partner domestic violence cases in cooperation with Emerge and other service agencies.
  • Assists in adapting and presenting training to state and national audiences as a blueprint for what a coordinated community response can accomplish in domestic violence and firearms issues.
  • Tracks and maintains record of program-specific statistics that provide key performance indication of the programs progress and success.  Reports statistical analysis in effective formats to assist program evaluation and development. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

One (1) year of relevant experience

Equivalency

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

License/Certifications

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or another related field
Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, court, or another criminal justice setting
