About us: 

The Finance team at Airbus Defence and Space acts as a strategic co-pilot to operational units, taking responsibility for the business's overall financial management and performance. Our scope spans multi-year forecasting, scenario modelling, and comprehensive P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow analysis. We work directly with operational teams to evaluate cost structures, track actual performance against targets, identify financial risks and opportunities, and support decision-making across complex aerospace and defence projects.

Alongside driving performance, our function enforces financial governance, compliance, and process standards across the organisation. We structure cost accounting, establish appropriate funding schemes, navigate statutory requirements, and manage audit and reporting requirements. A key part of our role is raising financial awareness across non-finance business areas through dedicated tools, shared referentials, and ongoing operational support. For a placement student, this position offers direct involvement in live financial modelling, reporting, and operational finance processes within a large-scale industrial setting.

What you will be doing:

A finance intern supports a company's financial operations while gaining hands-on experience in accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. Responsibilities generally include building financial models, executing month-end account reconciliations, analyzing data trends, and updating forecasting spreadsheets.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Analysis: Review and analyze financial data to identify operational trends or cost-saving opportunities;
• Accounting Support: Assist with accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and day-to-day bookkeeping;
• Reporting: Compile financial data to assist in the preparation of regular budgets, forecasts, and reports;
• Reconciliation: Process statement reconciliations across bank, supplier, and customer accounts.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Studying towards a degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics;
• Good understanding of Microsoft Office, i.e. Excel;
• Strong teamwork skills;
• Ability to work autonomously on own initiative;
• Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written;
• Drive to develop yourself and others;
• Logical and analytical approach to problem solving;
• Curious to understand why and the bigger picture;
• Ability to explain accounting concepts to Non Finance;
• Ability to work in accordance with tight deadlines and maintain quality of output.

This Job Request will be allocated to the projected Joint-Venture scope towards a leading European player in space.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
