About the team

We’re excited to share an opportunity for an experienced finance professional to join Ordnance Survey as a Finance Analyst. You’ll join our collaborative Finance team that plays a key role in supporting informed decision-making across OS. Our team provides trusted financial insight, reporting and assurance to support business performance and long-term sustainability, while ensuring robust financial controls are in place across the organisation.

We value curiosity, continuous improvement and teamwork, creating an environment where everyone can contribute ideas, develop professionally and make a meaningful impact.

About the role

This 12-month fixed-term contract provides an opportunity to take ownership of project accounting and fixed/leased asset activities at OS. Working closely with project managers, Finance Business Partners and other stakeholders, you will help ensure project costs, internal labour, capital investment, and fixed/leased asset records are accurate, well controlled and clearly understood.

As a Finance Analyst, you will play a key role in supporting the financial management of our project portfolio, ensuring expenditure is appropriately recorded, monitored and reported. You will work with colleagues across the organisation to maintain strong financial controls, support decision-making and provide financial insight into project performance and investment activity.

In this role, you will be:

  • Managing ongoing and month-end/year-end project accounting activities, including monitoring project costs, internal labour allocations and capital expenditure
  • Supporting project managers and Finance Business Partners with financial reporting and analysis to improve understanding of project performance and promote compliance
  • Maintaining the fixed and leased asset register and ensuring additions, disposals, transfers and depreciation are accurately recorded as part of balance sheet reconciliations
  • Reviewing and processing project-related accounting entries to ensure compliance with accounting policies and audit requirements
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, and planning activities for projects and capital programmes
  • Identifying opportunities to improve financial processes, controls and reporting

What we’re looking for

We're looking for someone who can demonstrate the skills and experience needed for this role and who aligns with our principles.

You'll bring:

  • Experience of financial reporting, analysis, and project or management accounting activities
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Proactive mindset with experience of working with complex datasets and financial controls
  • Ability to interpret financial information and communicate it clearly to a range of audiences
  • Experience working with financial systems, Excel and reporting tools
  • Understanding of fixed assets, capitalisation, and good accounting practice
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Collaborative approach and confidence in building effective working relationships across a range of business functions

Nice to have

  • Progress towards or completion of a professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting or business planning processes
  • Experience working with Dynamics 365, business intelligence, or reporting tools

The rewards

We want you to love what you do and feel supported to do your best work.

Our benefits include:

  • Competitive salary and pension (OS contribute up to 12.07%)
  • Performance‑related bonus (where applicable)
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (increasing with service)
  • Enhanced family leave, including paid partner leave
  • Hybrid and flexible working options
  • Learning and development support, coaching and mentoring
  • Free subscription to OS Maps and access to wellbeing support
  • Volunteering leave and matched fundraising

Ordnance Survey is proud to be an accredited CIMA Development Quality Partner, demonstrating our commitment to supporting finance professionals in furthering their development and careers.

Location & working pattern

We embrace a hybrid working model at OS, because we believe in flexibility and balance.  You’ll be based at our fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire, where you'll spend 50% of your working week collaborating face-to-face with colleagues. It’s all about combining the best of both worlds connection and autonomy to help you thrive.

Security & eligibility

OS conducts pre-employment checks for anyone made an offer of employment, including identity, right to work, employment history and criminal record checks (via Disclosure & Barring Services (DBS).

Some of our roles may require additional security vetting. We will advise candidates during the recruitment process if additional vetting may be required for that specific role.

This role requires the right to work in the UK at the time of application.  Unfortunately, OS cannot provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Inclusion at OS

Research shows that people from underrepresented groups often hesitate to apply unless they meet every requirement. At Ordnance Survey, we’re committed to building a diverse, inclusive and welcoming workplace.

If this role excites you but your experience doesn’t match every point, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right person for this role or another opportunity at OS.

We are happy to consider any reasonable adjustments that people may need during the recruitment process, and you will be asked whether you require any during the application process.
