Role Purpose

This is a fixed-term, project-linked position created specifically to support continuity of routine supply on Bard's existing Filling & Packaging (F&P) lines during the Expansion Training Workstream. The role exists solely to provide operational support on designated legacy packaging lines while permanent operators are released to participate in training and qualification activities associated with new expansion assets, including Lines 24, 25, 26, and related equipment.

The successful candidate will support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of legacy packaging lines, ensuring products are packaged in accordance with approved specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

This role is restricted to legacy production assets only. The post-holder will not be trained, assessed, qualified, deployed, or scheduled to work on new expansion lines or equipment.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Filling & Packaging Line Operator, you will support the operation of designated legacy packaging lines with a focus on maintaining product supply, quality, and operational performance throughout the expansion transition period.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the set-up, start-up, operation, and changeover of designated legacy Filling & Packaging lines in accordance with approved SOPs.

  • Completing batch documentation accurately and in a timely manner to support production schedules and regulatory compliance.

  • Monitoring equipment performance, identifying abnormalities, and escalating issues promptly to minimise downtime and maintain Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

  • Packaging commercial pharmaceutical products in accordance with approved manufacturing instructions, product specifications, and GMP requirements.

  • Conducting in-process quality checks and ensuring packaged products meet established quality standards.

  • Maintaining excellent housekeeping standards through participation in 5S, GEMBA, and continuous improvement activities.

  • Supporting effective communication during shift handovers and working collaboratively with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Supply Chain colleagues.

  • Completing line cleaning, batch clearance, reconciliation, and associated activities to maintain compliance and operational readiness.

  • Ensuring all assigned training within the legacy line scope remains current and compliant.

  • Adhering at all times to company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures.

GMP and Quality

You will demonstrate a strong understanding of GMP principles and the importance of compliance within a regulated manufacturing environment. Accurate documentation, adherence to approved procedures, and a commitment to quality will be essential to success in this role.

You will work closely with Quality Assurance and operational teams to ensure all activities are performed safely, consistently, and in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.

What you'll bring

Education

Minimum Required:

  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).

Preferred:

  • Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including Maths and English.

Certifications

Minimum Required:

  • Packaging machinery certification obtained through OEM in-house training.

Preferred:

  • Recognised packaging qualification (e.g., NVQ).

  • Packaging machinery certification obtained through OEM in-house training.

Experience

Minimum Required:

  • Experience working within a production or regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrable understanding of GMP principles.

Preferred:

  • Experience within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

  • Experience operating modern, high-speed packaging equipment.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Good practical and mechanical aptitude.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to complete production documentation accurately and legibly.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions consistently.

  • Ability to calibrate associated equipment in accordance with approved procedures and record results accurately.

  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.

Working Environment

This role is based within a pharmaceutical production environment and requires adherence to GMP requirements, safety procedures, and standard operating processes.

Fixed-Term Project Nature of the Role

This position is wholly and exclusively connected to the Filling & Packaging Expansion Training Workstream and is not part of the permanent Filling & Packaging Operator establishment.

Key conditions of the role include:

  • The position exists solely to support legacy production operations during the expansion training programme.

  • The contract is expected to last for up to 24 months and will terminate upon completion of the Expansion Training Workstream, which is the specific project event linked to the fixed-term nature of the role.

  • The post-holder's responsibilities are limited to designated legacy packaging lines throughout the duration of the contract.

  • The post-holder will not be trained, assessed, qualified, deployed, or rostered to operate Lines 24, 25, 26, or any associated expansion assets.

  • The role does not create an entitlement to a permanent position following completion of the project.
