Community Work-Study Program

The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at nonprofit organizations that serve the public interest.  

Goals of this program include:  

• Developing interest in public service through employment with TAMIU and placement in local nonprofit, government, or community-based organizations.  
• Applying skills and theories gained through coursework to solve problems and explore issues outside the classroom.  
• Enhancing career competencies, such as critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and leadership.  
• Articulating how experiences will shape personal, academic, and professional pursuits.  

Job Summary

The program intern will support the Imaginarium of South Texas with marketing, outreach, events, programs, and public engagement. The student will help promote museum programs, field trips, camps, exhibits, memberships, special events, and community initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in marketing, communications, social media, graphic design, and community engagement.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Create and schedule engaging social media content for Facebook, Instagram, and other digital platforms. 
• Assist with marketing campaigns for museum events, programs, field trips, camps, birthday parties, fundraisers, and special activities. 
• Design flyers, graphics, email announcements, and other promotional materials. 
• Take photos and short videos during museum events and programs for marketing and community outreach. 
• Assist with updating website content, newsletters, calendars, and event listings. 
• Support community outreach efforts by promoting partnerships, sponsorships, and local collaborations. 
• Track social media engagement and campaign performance to help improve future outreach efforts. 
• Maintain organized marketing files, photo libraries, contact lists, and promotional calendars. 
• Represent the Imaginarium in a professional, positive, and family-friendly manner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
• Experience creating or managing content for social media platforms. 
• Basic graphic design skills using Canva, Adobe Express, or similar platforms. 
• Ability to take quality photos and videos using a phone or camera. 
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines. 
• Dependable and able to work independently while completing assigned projects. 
• Friendly and professional when interacting with children, families, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners. 
• Comfortable creating family-friendly promotional content.

Minimum Requirements

• Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates, 3 credit hours for graduates).  
• Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.  
• Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.  
• Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.  
• Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen with an alien registration number.  
• Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Other Requirements

• Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
• Promptly complete all required training.
• Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly.  
• Some evening and weekend work may be required.
• Reliable transportation.
• Subject to funding and/or need.

Rate of Pay: $10.00/hour for up to 15 hours per week
