Faculty Physician – Urologic Oncology

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Urology seek a Urologic Oncologist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Bridgeport, WV, and Morgantown, WV.

Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the areas of Urologic Oncology. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a Urology residency program, as well as a Urologic Oncology fellowship program. Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in Urologic Oncology. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

The WVU Cancer Institute is comprised of a multidisciplinary care center, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center (MBRCC), in Morgantown, West Virginia, as well as 16 regional sites across West Virginia and the surrounding region. The MBRCC is one of the country's premier cancer treatment centers. It is a quaternary cancer center housing the state's only Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program and the only Hyperthermic Intraoperative Peritoneal Chemotherapy Program. The growth of the Institute is driven by a mission to connect patients in all areas of the state and region with a broader team of cancer specialists and is centered on five common themes: clinical enterprise and advancement; statewide cancer prevention, control, and outreach; research; and education.

The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty and sub-specialty care in areas such as women’s health, cancer, heart and vascular, and neuroscience, among many others. The Health System operates West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center and a 150-bed Children’s Hospital.

Today, the WVU Health System has more than 3,400 licensed beds, 4,600 providers, and nearly 35,000 employees. Anchored by an 880-bed academic medical center in Morgantown, the Health System includes 25 member hospitals that collectively serve a multi-state region.

Meet the Chair

Steven Campbell, MD, PhD, came to WVU from the Cleveland Clinic, where he served as a board-certified urologist, vice chair of Urology, residency program director, and professor of Surgery. For the past 20 years, he led the largest urology residency training program in the United States and was central to the Urologic Oncology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Campbell’s primary interests include renal cell carcinoma, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and resident education. He’s a nationally renowned expert in the field, authoring more than 400 papers and serving as the lead author of the American Urological Association’s Guidelines for the Management of Kidney Cancer.

Campbell has treated a multitude of patients with all types of genitourinary cancer tumors in his 30+ year career in the field.

Before joining the Cleveland Clinic, he served as co-director of Urologic Oncology at Loyola University Medical Center; chief of the Urology service at Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Maywood, Illinois; and co-director of the Division of Urological Oncology at Northwestern.

After completing his urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic, he completed a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He obtained a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Chicago, where he earned his MD and bachelor’s degrees.
