Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Facilities Manager is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and physical condition of Toyota Arena. This role directly manages a team of maintenance technicians and ice technicians to ensure all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Core areas of responsibility include HVAC, ice plant and refrigeration systems, electrical, plumbing, life safety systems, and the facility's preventative maintenance program.
Essential duties and responsibilities includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Essential Functions
Building Systems & Technical Operations
- Hands-on working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment, electrical systems and equipment, fire suppression systems, ice plant refrigeration systems, and energy management systems.
- Performs and coordinates all preventative maintenance (PM) across building systems; ensures equipment is maintained to factory specifications and Legends Global standards.
- Performs major and minor repairs to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and ice plant systems.
- Oversees building automation systems (BAS) and energy management platforms to optimize facility performance and control operating costs.
- Maintains and repairs food service equipment including ovens, grills, dishwashers, deep fryers, and refrigeration units as required.
- Operates facility equipment including forklifts, boom lifts, power sweepers, power scrubbers, electric carts, and miscellaneous hand and power tools.
Ice Plant & Ice Technician Operations
- Directly supervises ice technicians and manages all ice plant operations, refrigeration systems, and ice resurfacing equipment.
- Ensures ice surface quality meets the standards required by arena tenants (including the Ontario Reign) and scheduled events.
- Maintains ice plant refrigeration systems in safe working order; oversees proper refrigerant handling and documentation in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Coordinates with tenants and event stakeholders on ice scheduling, ice quality requirements, and any plant-related issues or outages.
- Manages ice resurfacing equipment maintenance, scheduling, and operator oversight.
Team Management & Administration
- Directly supervises, schedules, and evaluates a team of maintenance technicians and ice technicians; conducts annual performance evaluations.
- Assesses team knowledge, skills, and abilities; coordinates training and professional development opportunities.
- Manages employee disciplinary actions, attendance tracking, and scheduling in coordination with HR.
- Manages the facility work order system from entry to completion; ensures staff have a balanced workload and that all work orders are completed in a timely manner.
- Recommends procurement of supplies, materials, and equipment to appropriate leadership.
- Completes detailed daily maintenance logs and end-of-shift reports.
- Attends weekly operations, staff, and safety meetings.
Safety & Compliance
- Assists the Director of Operations in developing and implementing facility compliance with applicable codes and regulations, including CAL/OSHA and local codes.
- Ensures all safety plans are current and in place and that all maintenance and ice technician staff are trained on proper safety protocols and that all safety policies are consistently followed.
- Serves as safety coordinator for Toyota Arena.
- Responds to facility concerns and maintenance requests in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience / Training / Education
Required
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in facilities maintenance, with at least 2 years in an arena, ice rink, or sports facility with an active ice plant.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with ice plant refrigeration systems and ice technician operations.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with HVAC systems and mechanical equipment.
- Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.
- Must pass a background check.
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in mechanical engineering, facilities management, or related field.
- C-10 Electrical Contractor License and/or C-20 HVAC License.
- Experience at an NHL, AHL, or comparable professional hockey or multi-purpose arena.
- Familiarity with refrigerant regulations and EPA Section 608 certification.
Knowledge / Abilities / Skills
Extensive Knowledge of
- Ice plant refrigeration systems and ice resurfacing equipment operations and maintenance.
- Operating principles of HVAC and mechanical systems.

- Prioritize and manage multiple projects and urgent repairs simultaneously.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with work order management software and standard computer applications.
- Ability to operate facility equipment including forklifts, boom lifts, and electric carts.
- Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, event-driven environment.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 40% of the workday; pushing and pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, and lifting at least 50 lbs. Walking for long distances for more than 50% of the workday. This position may require work inside or outside of the building. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours. Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00am or later. Must be able to pass a background check. Employee should use precautions and follow safety guidelines at all times.
Must pass a background check and have a valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
