Job Summary:

The Legal Counsel - Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy is a permanent and full-time Manager role within Accenture's Global Data Privacy team, to be filled by an experienced data privacy professional. The successful candidate will combine strong legal and privacy expertise with business acumen, and demonstrate interest and experience in AI, digital technologies and emerging technologies.

The role serves as a strategic advisor to business and corporate functions globally, helping embed privacy requirements into services, products, technology solutions and operational processes. In addition to providing privacy counsel, the successful candidate will lead and coordinate strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the maturity, effectiveness and scalability of Accenture's global privacy program, governance framework, operating model and privacy-by-design capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

The role has the following data privacy responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and practical subject matter expertise to internal corporate and business functions globally on data privacy compliance, privacy risk management, privacy reviews and privacy by design.
  • Lead and coordinate strategic initiatives that further strengthen and mature Accenture's global privacy program, including governance frameworks, operational processes, review methodologies, reporting, stakeholder engagement models and privacy-by-design capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts to enhance efficiency, consistency, scalability and effectiveness of privacy advisory processes and related privacy program capabilities.
  • Conduct and lead Privacy by Design reviews for new and existing internal projects, services, offerings, products, technology solutions and other data privacy compliance strategic projects on a regional and global scale.
  • Partner with key business stakeholders and senior individuals to ensure privacy considerations are addressed at the outset of new services, offerings, projects, products and initiatives.
  • Conduct legal research, interpret legal and regulatory requirements, and apply a risk-based assessment of how those requirements affect new services, offerings, projects, products or initiatives.
  • Advise on privacy considerations associated with AI, analytics, automation, digital technologies and emerging technologies, balancing innovation objectives with legal, ethical and compliance requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular Legal, business teams, Corporate Functions, Data Privacy and Information Security leads, and clients as needed.
  • Work with regional and local stakeholders to create, maintain and continuously improve privacy review processes and embed privacy-by-design methodology into relevant business processes.
  • Work with other Data Privacy team roles on global Data Privacy initiatives, projects, program enhancements and cross-functional workstreams.
  • Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments related to data privacy and adjacent fields, including AI, technology trends and developments, and translate them into guidance, training, communications and thought leadership for internal audiences.

Relationships:

Reports to: Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy Director 

Key Relationships:

  • Legal, including Geographic Compliance & Corporate, Employment Law, Disputes & Litigation, eDiscovery, IP, Sourcing and external counsel.
  • Corporate Functions, including Global IT, Information Security, HR and other business stakeholders.
  • Market Unit leadership and senior stakeholders involved in privacy reviews, strategic initiatives and technology-enabled transformation.
  • Data Privacy and Information Security leads globally.
  • Related subject matter experts, including security professionals, records retention SMEs, analytics, AI, technology, risk management and government compliance stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • University law degree (Master or comparable level).
  • CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certification considered a plus.

Work experience:

  • Minimum 7 years' experience in global data privacy law and practice in a global company, law firm, consulting environment or technology and IT sector.
  • Proficiency in English (both spoken and written).
  • Experience and expertise with major national data privacy legislation and cross-border privacy issues.
  • Experience advising on privacy risk management, privacy reviews, privacy by design, incident handling, individual rights requests and regulatory enquiries.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or coordinating complex cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, geographies and competing priorities.
  • Experience supporting, designing or enhancing privacy governance frameworks, operational processes, methodologies, controls or compliance program capabilities.
  • Experience advising on privacy aspects of digital transformation, AI, cloud, analytics, automation, emerging technologies or data-driven business initiatives.
  • Knowledge of Information and Communication Technologies or a technology degree or qualification.
  • Experience monitoring privacy trends and developments and translating them into actionable requirements, guidance and program enhancements.

Work Requirements:

  • Limited to no travel required.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively and independently with others remotely, manage a schedule with global clients and internal stakeholders, conduct privacy reviews and support strategic privacy program initiatives across time zones.

  • Strong expertise in data privacy, data security and global privacy laws.
  • Strong project, program management and operational skills in multicultural, matrixed environments.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, build consensus and translate privacy requirements into business outcomes.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills across management levels and cultures.
  • Ability to lead global teams, coordinate workstreams and deliver strategic privacy program objectives.
  • Ability to simplify complex ideas, processes and plans for legal, technical and business audiences.
  • Creative, collaborative and able to bridge differing views, requirements and risk considerations.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented and able to identify risks, priorities and mitigation options.
  • Sound judgment in applying company policy and escalating issues timely.
  • Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
