About this Engineering Manager role at Lumilens
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead Process Development and High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) for our Silicon Photonics transceiver product lines (800G, 1.6T) supporting AI data center customers. The successful candidate will lead and grow a team of process engineers, and work closely with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional development teams to meet product objectives and instill a culture of quality and continuous improvement. The manager must be a hands-on technical leader, eager to drive new processes and solutions for high-volume manufacturing of optical transceivers, while developing talent and building organizational capability to scale with product demand.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
· Lead, mentor, and grow a team of process and manufacturing engineers responsible for silicon photonics transceiver process development and sustaining.
· Define, develop, prove, and deploy manufacturing processes for new products (800G, 1.6T) and drive continuous improvement projects to achieve yield, throughput, efficiency, scrap, and quality targets.
· Own manufacturing process documentation strategy; review and approve processes implemented on the production line.
· Drive end-to-end manufacturing ownership: ensure all changes to product, processes, and materials are under change control and follow established QMS requirements.
· Partner with design engineering and contract manufacturing teams to execute, improve, and sustain manufacturing processes, ensuring design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines are met.
· Collaborate with the quality team on planning and execution of qualification testing.
· Set team priorities and resource plans; prepare process and program reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends for senior leadership.
· Champion automation across manufacturing processes wherever feasible.
· Lead equipment selection and capital planning: create statements of purpose, and work with suppliers and stakeholders to develop algorithms, machine hardware, and software from buy-off through release to manufacturing.
· Manage relationships and performance of contract manufacturers and equipment/material suppliers across global sites.
· Support hiring, performance management, and career development for direct reports.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field, plus 10+ years of experience in high-volume optical transceiver and/or laser manufacturing, including at least 2-3 years in a people management or team lead role.
· Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational leadership skills.
· In-depth technical knowledge and hands-on experience in the design, development, selection, and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and methodologies for optical assemblies.
· Expert in one or more optical transceiver assembly processes, such as wire bond, die bond, active optical alignment, product testing, burn-in, etc.
· Expertise in data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and report generation.
· In-depth understanding of quality management systems and quality standard requirements.
· Data query and analysis skills using statistical tools and techniques.
· Expertise in optics failure analysis (FA) processes and tools.
· Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams within a geographically diverse, cross-functional organization.
· Strong command of English communication to communicate with English speaking stakeholders, both verbal and written, including in-person and virtual presentation and stakeholder management skills.
· International travel required.
