Senior Manufacturing Equipment Engineer
Location: Lumentum Thailand, Navanakorn, Pathum Thani
Position Overview
The Senior Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is responsible for evaluating, selecting, installing, qualifying, upgrading, and maintaining manufacturing equipment to support product quality, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
This role oversees equipment performance and reliability, establishes preventive maintenance programs, and develops solutions to improve machine uptime and resolve equipment-related issues affecting manufacturing processes. The position also provides technical support to Equipment Maintenance, Production, Process Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to ensure equipment readiness and smooth manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate, select, and recommend manufacturing equipment based on technical capability, product requirements, reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
Support equipment purchasing by preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, and providing technical recommendations.
Oversee the installation, qualification, setup, calibration, validation, modification, and upgrade of manufacturing equipment and tooling.
Provide technical and maintenance engineering support to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, utilization, and production efficiency.
Perform and support preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), equipment troubleshooting, and complex repair activities.
Analyze equipment failures and recurring issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions to reduce downtime.
Develop programs and technical solutions to improve equipment performance, reliability, capacity, machine utilization, and overall equipment effectiveness.
Define, develop, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules, procedures, checklists, and equipment maintenance standards.
Monitor and analyze equipment performance data and maintenance trends using statistical and data-analysis tools.
Lead or support equipment improvement projects focused on productivity, product quality, cost reduction, cycle-time improvement, and operational efficiency.
Provide technical support to Equipment Maintenance, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Process Engineering teams.
Collaborate with Quality, Facilities, EHS, Supply Chain, and other cross-functional teams to support smooth manufacturing operations.
Support New Product Introduction activities and ensure equipment, tooling, and production lines are ready for prototype builds and mass production.
Maintain current records of equipment manufacturers’ technical notices, software or hardware upgrades, obsolescence risks, and safety issues.
Prepare and maintain equipment specifications, qualification documents, maintenance records, equipment history, SOPs, work instructions, PM checklists, and other technical documentation.
Establish and maintain an effective spare-parts strategy, including critical-spare identification, inventory requirements, and obsolescence planning.
Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, vendors, and external suppliers regarding equipment installation, troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, spare parts, and technical support.
Support engineering changes, machine modifications, process transfers, and automation improvement initiatives.
Ensure all equipment and maintenance activities comply with applicable safety regulations, EHS requirements, quality systems, and company standards.
Provide technical guidance, coaching, and training to technicians and operators on equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
Participate in equipment-related audits and ensure that required documentation and corrective actions are completed on time.
Perform other equipment engineering duties and support production requirements as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
At least seven years of relevant experience in manufacturing equipment engineering, equipment maintenance, manufacturing engineering, automation support, or a related technical function.
Experience in electronics, semiconductor, optical, photonics, or another high-technology manufacturing environment is preferred.
Proven experience in equipment selection, installation, qualification, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, and performance improvement.
Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems, equipment reliability, troubleshooting methodologies, and root-cause analysis.
Working knowledge of PLCs, automation and control systems, sensors, motors, pneumatic systems, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and industrial equipment.
Experience working with equipment-performance indicators such as uptime, downtime, MTBF, MTTR, machine utilization, and overall equipment effectiveness is preferred.
Familiarity with statistical analysis tools, continuous improvement methodologies, CAPA, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar improvement approaches.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
Good project-management, planning, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proactive, self-motivated, task-driven, and able to work effectively both independently and within a cross-functional team.
Good communication, presentation, and coordination skills in both English and Thai.
Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Flexibility to support production requirements and collaborate with global teams outside regular working hours when necessary.
