At ASM, we are shaping the future of semiconductor manufacturing through innovative technology and world-class engineering. As a Test Engineer within our Hardware Engineering organization, you will play a key role in the development, verification, and optimization of next-generation semiconductor process equipment.

You will design and execute experiments, analyze complex system behavior, and translate data into engineering improvements. Working closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Systems, and Process Engineers, you will contribute to the validation and performance enhancement of prototypes, subsystems, and complete equipment platforms.

A key focus area of this role is the characterization, tuning, and optimization of reactor temperature control systems. Through data-driven analysis and experimentation, you will help improve system stability, thermal performance, and process repeatability in our advanced semiconductor equipment.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Test Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and execute verification and validation test plans for prototypes, subsystems, and system-level designs.
  • Design and build test setups for mechanical, electrical, thermal, vacuum, and integrated system performance evaluations.
  • Perform testing on engineering builds and new product developments.
  • Analyze experimental data and provide clear recommendations to development teams.
  • Investigate system failures, perform root-cause analysis, and support corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with design engineers to improve product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Develop automated test procedures, data acquisition methods, and analysis workflows where appropriate.
  • Document test results and communicate findings to technical stakeholders.
  • Support reliability, qualification, and technology development programs throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Characterize, tune, and validate reactor temperature control systems and associated thermal models.
  • Analyze thermal performance data and contribute to the optimization of temperature control strategies to improve process stability, uniformity, and repeatability.

Education and Experience

Required

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in testing, validation, engineering development, or experimental research activities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience with measurement systems, instrumentation, and data analysis.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, engineering requirements, and design documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

Preferred

  • Experience within the semiconductor, high-tech equipment, mechatronics, vacuum technology, or precision engineering industries.
  • Knowledge of design verification, validation methodologies, reliability testing, or qualification processes.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar engineering analysis and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Understanding of sensors, instrumentation, and automated test systems.
  • Experience with thermal system modeling, temperature control tuning, or process control in complex technical equipment.

Skills

You are:

  • Curious and eager to understand how complex systems behave and perform.
  • Hands-on and comfortable working with prototypes and experimental setups.
  • Data-driven, with a passion for translating measurements into engineering insights.
  • Collaborative and able to work across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Structured and detail-oriented while maintaining a practical engineering mindset.
  • Motivated to solve challenging technical problems in a fast-paced innovation environment.
