YOUR ROLE

As an Engineer on the Wind River Linux team, you develop and maintain BSP and Linux kernel components for embedded platforms across ARM and x86. You own well-scoped hardware-enablement and kernel work end to end, bring-up, drivers, device trees, and defect fixes, CVE fixes, working independently on your assignments while learning from senior engineers on the harder cross-layer problems. You write clean, maintainable code, debug real hardware/kernel issues, and grow toward technical ownership of a platform or subsystem.

In your daily job you will:

What You'll Do

Development & Implementation

  • Develop and maintain BSP components, device trees, and machine configurations for supported platforms.
  • Work on Linux kernel bring-up, driver enablement, and defect fixes; backport patches and CVE fixes into LTS kernels under guidance.
  • Support hardware bring-up and validation — bootloader config, kernel boot, peripheral enablement.
  • Write high-quality, maintainable code and recipes following team and Yocto/OpenEmbedded conventions.
  • Debug and resolve BSP and kernel issues across boot, drivers, and system init.

Technical Growth & Collaboration

  • Participate in code reviews and design discussions; take on progressively larger, less-bounded work as you grow.
  • Mentor P1 (Associate) engineers on tasks you've mastered.
  • Collaborate across a distributed team (US / India); share what you learn through clear documentation.
  • Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives, and contribute to team process improvements.

BSP / Kernel Specific

  • Enable new hardware platforms and processors; configure device trees and hardware abstraction layers.
  • Work with hardware vendors' BSPs and reference designs to integrate into the WRLinux Yocto layers.
  • Maintain compatibility across hardware platforms and kernel versions; keep recipes and configs current with the release cadence.
  • Contribute to platform performance, boot-time, and reliability improvements.

Required Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years on embedded systems / embedded Linux.
  • Hands-on C in production systems; C++ a plus.
  • Solid background in the software development lifecycle on Linux.

Technical Skills

  • Strong C programming on Linux.
  • Solid understanding of embedded systems and hardware-software interaction.
  • Working knowledge of the Linux kernel drivers, device trees, boot flow.
  • Experience with a build system — Yocto / OpenEmbedded (strongly preferred), Buildroot, or similar.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving (GDB, kernel logs, serial console; JTAG a plus).
  • Git and code-review fluency; Agile/Scrum.
  • Python for scripting/automation is a plus.

Nice to Have

  • OSS/upstream contribution track record (kernel or Yocto layers).
  • Edge-AI inference stacks on embedded silicon (TensorRT, OpenVINO, ONNX Runtime, TF Lite)
