Summary of Major Duties for function as Ambulance Based EMT-I: To maintain and operate an emergency medical vehicle in the safe transportation of emergency and non-emergency for Albuquerque Ambulance Service of Presbyterian Healthcare Services. Provide patient care within the EMT-Intermediate s scope of practice and licensure on scene of an emergency or non-emergency call. Attend on at least 50% of all non-emergency prescheduled transports appropriate to scope of practice and licensure.Summary of Major Duties for function as In-Hospital patient care EMT-I: Perfoms all functions of patient evaluation as required, including patient assessment within State Approved Scope of Practice. Assists Presbyterian hospital staff as necessary when available. Performs patient care procedures within State Approved Scope of Practice under the direction of Physician and / or performs advanced support-procedures within State Approved Scope of Practice and for the operation of the assigned unit. Responsible for the delivery of quality care to patients under varied conditions

Responsibilities:
Summary of Primary Functions as Field EMT-I *Maintains and operates an emergency medical vehicle in the safe transportation of emergency and non-emergency patients. Meets all expectations for adherence to P&P and best practice in safe operation of the vehicle. *Assists Paramedic in providing emergency pre-hospital care for injured or ill patients at the basic and intermediate levels. Attend on at least 50% of all requests for services appropriate to scope of practice and licensure. Meets expectations for adherence to system protocols and excellence in quality of care. *Meets expectations for quality charting through adherence to the RESCUE narrative components. Provides accurate and complete demographics in order to support successful billing of patient transports. Meets all set expectations for patient documentation metrics for continuum of care, financial reimbursement and legal requirements. *Maintains positive communications and collaboration with physicians and staff regarding the definitive therapy administered to patients being delivered for emergency care at their facility. *Meets expectations for operational performance measures related to all time on task components. Proactively utilizes best practices to minimize out of chute, response and drop times *Perform other functions as required. * Summary of Primary Functions as In-Hospital Patient Care EMT-I: *Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in the patient record. Stamps and assembles patient charts. Posts laboratory and other tests results. Transports patients and documents action on patient record. Monitors patients and collects information for documentation in patient record. Collects and records vital signs in patient record. Provides simple patient teaching and discharge instructions. *Inserts and removes non-medicated, peripheral intravenous therapy lines within State Approved Scope of Practice. Performs phlebotomy and blood collection. *Performs wound care and dressing changes. . Inserts and removes gastric and urethral tubes. Applies plaster and fiberglass splints, casts and traction devices. Performs bedside testing such as oximetry, ECG, Glucometry, urinalysis and other tests. *Coordinates and maintains specific equipment and / or supply systems. Coordinates and maintains specific sterile processing systems. *Operates patient monitoring systems specific to unit needs (such as, cardiac and fetal heart monitoring). *Uses the computerized Patient Care Information System (PACIS) at the skill level commensurate with the responsibilities included in this description, as well as that of a Unit Secretary (544), if required. *Insures cleanliness of nutrition areas and general unit. Cleans and stores equipment. Empties trash, linen bags and sharps containers. *Stocks medical supplies, linens and paper goods. Inventories equipment as required. Processes broken equipment as directed. Maintains equipment logs as required. *Delivers specimens to Laboratory, Microbiology and Pathology. Transports x-rays, blood and equipment. Performs basic clerical duties such as answering phones, taking messages, filing and copying. *Participates in the nutritional well being of the patient through tray delivery, assistance with patient set-up, assists those patients that are dependent for their intake needs, and accurately records consumption. *Administers oxygen under the direction of a licensed Nurse. Assists nurses and physicians with sterile procedures. Assists with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing and walking patients. *Assists or provides patient hygiene to include, shaving, mouth care, foot care, perineal care, and bathing. *Assists patients with portable or wall oxygen and assures proper storage of E cylinders. *Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team. *Communicates information pertinent to the end of shift summation before leaving the unit. *Performs other functions as required within State Approved Scope of Practice.Qualifications:
*High school or equivalent. *Age requirement is 18. *Completion of the formal Emergency Medical Technicians-Intermediate (EMT-I) course is required. *Current license issued by the State of New Mexico Emergency Medical Service Bureau, as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) is required. *Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required. *1-2 years experience preferred. *Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions is required. *Formal medical technician or military training preferred. *Maintains annual current department competencies and Employee Health Requirements.
