Job Summary
The Standard is hiring! The Voluntary Employee Benefits Consultant partners with Sales, Underwriting, and Product teams as the internal subject matter expert to support RFP submissions, questionnaires, pricing discussions, and implementation planning for prospective and existing clients. This position will oversee a territory that includes Michigan, Northern Ohio and Pittsburgh Markets.
- Collaborate closely with internal departments—Life, Accident & Disability (LAD) Sales Reps, Sales Support, Underwriting, Policyholder Services, Billing, Compliance, and Compensation—to achieve production goals and ensure high-quality business.
- Establish and maintain high level partnerships with national, regional, and local Employee Benefit Broker Partners, General Agents, Technology Partners, and Enrollment Firms for voluntary group and life insurance products, as part of Standard’s overall Product Portfolio.
- Represent The Standard's voluntary benefits strategy through presentations, product demonstrations, and consultative discussions that reinforce the organization's vision and drive partner engagement and business growth.
- Deliver training and ongoing development to internal partners and key broker partners to drive market knowledge of Standard Voluntary Product Portfolio.
- Analyze market trends, consult with internal partners to enhance their business, support recruiting and marketing initiatives, and provide feedback to implement corporate strategy.

Skills and Background You’ll Need
Education: A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required for candidates with relevant experience. Life & health licensing required. If not currently licensed, must obtain upon hire.
Experience: Minimum 2+ years’ experience selling voluntary benefits.
- Must have strong relationships with Voluntary Practice Leads at National and Regional Brokerages in the Michigan, Northern Ohio and Pittsburgh Markets.
- Must have experience presenting to national brokerage firms regarding sales strategy and company value propositions. Strong collaboration and presentation skills.
- Expert Voluntary Benefits Product Knowledge regarding, Accident, Critical Illness, Hospital Indemnity, Cancer Coverage, Whole Life and Term Life.
- Expert Knowledge of Enrollment Support and Benefit Administration Platforms.
- Residence within Michigan, Northern Ohio and/or western PA is a requirement of the role.
- Ability to travel 3-5 times per month is a requirement of the role. Travel will vary month to month depending on activity in the market.

Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on a variety of factors including individual and organizational performance.
Performance guarantees may be applied to roles with highly incentivized compensation plans for a specified period of time to support a new hire’s transition into the sales incentive plan.
Compensation is made up of a base salary, incentives, and/or other bonuses when applicable. This is a minimum range that can be increased based on performance and sales activity.
Salary Range:
$125k-$200k, which includes a base salary and target incentive compensationPositions will be posted for at least 5 days from original posting date.
