Position Summary

As the EHS leader for the Sagamihara and Takao fabs in Japan, this role will have overall responsibility for EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) activities across both sites.

The EHS Manager will lead and develop the EHS teams at both fabs while working closely with manufacturing operations and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure compliance with Japanese regulatory requirements, reduce EHS risks, and drive continuous improvement in EHS management systems and performance.

The role will also lead EHS-related RBA compliance activities and work closely with the occupational physician and occupational health nurses to advance occupational health and employee health initiatives. In addition, the EHS Manager will collaborate with Global and Regional EHS teams and Corporate stakeholders to translate global policies and standards into practical site-level actions and drive a strong safety culture across both fabs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the EHS leader for the Sagamihara and Takao fabs, setting the strategic direction and mid- to long-term priorities for EHS and leading overall EHS activities across both sites.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the EHS teams at both fabs, setting clear expectations, roles, and responsibilities while strengthening team performance, ownership, and accountability.
  • Lead the development, implementation, governance, and continuous improvement of EHS management systems aligned with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Japanese EHS laws and regulations and oversee key EHS programs covering environmental compliance, occupational health and safety, chemical management, contractor safety, emergency preparedness and response, and regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor and work closely with Operations, Engineering, Facilities, HR, and other functions to identify EHS risks and issues and proactively drive them through to resolution.
  • Establish and manage EHS KPIs and action plans, ensuring clear ownership and accountability while driving continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Lead EHS-related RBA compliance activities and work closely with the occupational physician and occupational health nurses to advance occupational health and employee health initiatives.
  • Lead internal and external audits, ISO certification activities, and regulatory inspections and engagements, ensuring appropriate follow-up and timely closure of findings.
  • Partner with Global and Regional EHS teams and Corporate stakeholders to translate global EHS policies and standards into practical initiatives and actions at both fabs.
  • Maintain a strong presence on the production floor and actively engage employees to strengthen safety awareness and foster a strong and sustainable safety culture.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or higher. A bachelor's or master's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in EHS, including 5+ years managing EHS programs in a manufacturing or factory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Japanese EHS laws and regulations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing EHS teams and improving team performance.
  • EHS-related professional certifications, such as First-Class Health Supervisor (Dai-ichi-shu Eisei Kanrisha), are preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of Japanese EHS laws and regulations and international standards, particularly ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Knowledge and practical experience in chemical management, contractor safety, risk assessment, emergency preparedness and response, occupational health, environmental compliance, and RBA requirements.
  • A hands-on approach to working in a manufacturing environment, with a strong ownership mindset and the ability to proactively identify issues and drive actions through to resolution and completion.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels, from frontline employees to senior leaders, and explain technical EHS matters clearly from both operational and business perspectives.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use EHS metrics and data to support decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Languages:
    • Japanese: Native level.
    • English: Business level, with the ability to participate in meetings, prepare reports and presentations, and collaborate effectively on a day-to-day basis with Global
