Job Description
Job Summary:
The EEG Technician trainee receives training and instruction in performing electroencephalographic (EEG) examinations on outpatients or at the patient's bedside, in the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units. Will also set up and assist in monitoring patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Performs EEG exams on patients of all ages under the supervision of the EEG Technologist and the Medical Director of Neurodiagnostics. Will be eligible for promotion to EEG Technician after 1 year with demonstrated competence in core duties and completion of all required didactic training.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Following established policies and procedures the trainee will learn through group and individual teaching,
observation, assigned reading, and practicle application under the direct supervision of the EEG staff to
perform all routine testing and non-routine applications as required. Prepares patients for testing and
assists in performing the neurodiagnostic procedures within their scope of practice in the EEG department.
Will learn the appropriate methodology and techniques for administering procedures. Will learn to
determine correct calibration and adjustments to equipment as needed. Arranges immobilization or
support devices for proper patient positioning. At the end of training will be able to recognize ictal and
inter-ictal eletrographic patterns and be able to perform archival and associated data processing of
neurodiagnostic recordings.
Compliance with Patient/Family-Centered Care standards through the following: Demonstrates dignity and
respect for patient and family for patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and culatural background in
the planning and delivery of care. Provides information sharing, ensuring patients and families receive
timely, complete and accurate information in order to effectively participate in care and decision making.
Demonstrates knowledge of infection control standards relating to patient, equipment, and electrodes. Is
knowledgeable of all isolation protocols. Complies with department/institution guidelines for handling of
infections/hazardous materials. Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order. Will be able to
Troubleshoot equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor promptly.
Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Performs clerical duties as
required including, scheduling of procedures, archiving of studies, and department paperwork. Promotes
and participates in continous improvement projects. Practices workplace safety and safe enviromental
practices.
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
- High School Diploma / GED General
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum 1 year of experience in in direct patient care with knowledge of basic physical and biological sciences. Required
