Job Description

We believe in bold ideas, diverse perspectives, and the drive to transform knowledge into impact. In our culture, curiosity fuels progress, voices shape innovation, and ambition helps redefine what is possible in science and learning. We are deeply focused on impact—challenging the status quo and driving what’s next to power meaningful outcomes for our customers, colleagues, and society at large.

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious Editor in Chief with a PhD in Electrical Engineering to join our in-house editorial team. This exciting role offers the opportunity to drive the growth of engineering content in Advanced Science while helping to shape and develop our expanding portfolio of engineering journals.

This role combines scientific expertise, knowledge of the publishing landscape, and strong communication and networking skills to support the strategic development of one or more journals. The Editor in Chief will work closely with the deputy editors and other editorial functions to raise the journal’s profile and visibility within the community, attract high‑quality submissions, and engage leading researchers worldwide.

The Editor in Chief is expected to participate actively in conferences, institute visits, and broader outreach activities, as well as to manage the peer‑review process and make editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts. Ensuring the adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing is a core responsibility of the role.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategically develop one or more journals, in collaboration with the in-house Editorial board, from both scientific and publishing perspectives within the broader physical sciences journal portfolio.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with authors, peer reviewers, and editorial board members.
  • Leverage subject‑matter expertise, professional networks, awareness of field developments, and desk research to drive content acquisition and submissions growth.
  • Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through in‑person and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to support the development and growth of the journal portfolio.
  • Contribute to editorial assessment, peer‑review management, and decision‑making for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Two or more years of post‑PhD experience (postdoctoral, industrial, academic, publishing, and/or international experience is beneficial but not essential).
  • A strong publication record and a deep understanding of the engineering research landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and to achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
  • A self‑motivated, diplomatic, and flexible approach, with excellent organizational, efficiency, and time‑management skills, and a strong command of written and spoken English.
  • A solid understanding of scientific publishing, including commissioning and the peer‑review process; prior experience in publishing, editorial work, or science communication, together with familiarity with Open Access workflows and Open Research practices, is highly desirable.
  • A keen interest in science and science communication, and a strong motivation to advocate for innovation in scholarly publishing and open research.
