About this Driver (3 Positions) role at International Institute of Tropical Agriculture(IITA)

Position:    Driver

Contract:        5-months renewable contract                              Location:  Antananarivo, Madagascar

The Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of IITA staff, partners and official visitors, the delivery and collection of mail, equipment and supplies, and the upkeep and maintenance of IITA vehicles in Madagascar, in accordance with the IITA/AfricaRice vehicle management policy. The Driver reports hierarchically to the Project Administrator.

DUTIES

  • Perform daily maintenance checks on IITA vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes and tires, and arrange for required minor and major vehicle maintenance.
  • Keep vehicles clean.
  • Organize hotel-airport transfers for official personnel visiting Madagascar.
  • Drive the office vehicle to transport authorized personnel and to deliver and collect cargo and other items.
  • Drive vehicles in a safe and courteous manner and observe all road safety regulations.
  • Inform the Project Administrator in a timely manner of any problems observed with the vehicles, as well as any necessary repairs.
  • Organize and take the vehicle for regular maintenance as specified in the manual, with reputable service providers.
  • Drive IITA staff and partners to project field sites approved by the supervisor.
  • Assist with the delivery of mail, equipment, supplies and documents as needed.
  • Update the vehicle logbook in accordance with the IITA/AfricaRice vehicle management policy.
  • Liaise regularly with the Project Administrator and provide weekly activity updates.
  • Ensure compliance with the IITA/AfricaRice vehicle policy.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION:

At least a post-secondary education. Valid driver's license, at least category B.

At least 2 years of relevant experience, with a good knowledge of driving rules and regulations.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Basic mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to use initiative and sound judgment.
  • Ability to take on other responsibilities.
  • Fluent in Malagasy and French.
