Job Description:

Leader provides leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the Internal Process Control team within Surgical Services. This role ensures that surgical and procedural care processes related to scheduling, billing, revenue capture, data and analytics, tissue and other regulated tracking, policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory requirements are consistently implemented across the system. Leader is responsible for identifying and communicating instances where policy does not align with practice to ensure appropriate corrective action plans are developed and implemented. This role also identifies best practices and ensures they are effectively communicated and adopted across Surgical Services departments, including the Operating Room, Same-Day Surgery/Post-Recovery, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Sterile Processing, Anesthesia, and Endoscopy. Additionally, the Leader is responsible for coordinating and implementing key performance indicator (KPI), quality, and patient safety initiatives. This role collaborates across multiple teams to support the achievement of annual goals and performance targets.

This is a system-level leadership position reporting directly to the AVP of Surgical Services.

This role is preferably based within the Intermountain market areas (Utah – preferably in the Salt Lake area, ID, NV, MT or CO) to strengthen collaboration, visibility, and alignment with enterprise initiatives.

Essential Functions

• Quality and Safety: Partners with executive leadership to establish system-wide quality and safety strategies, ensuring performance measures, outcomes, and improvement initiatives are being tracked and utilized for improvement.
• Operational Efficiency: Provides oversight of scheduling, billing, and operational support functions to ensure standardized processes, operational efficiency, resource optimization, and consistent execution across system.
• Financial Stewardship: Partners with Revenue Integrity and operational leaders to optimize revenue capture, charge integrity, supply utilization, and financial performance.
• Compliance and Improvement Program: Develops and leads a comprehensive compliance program that ensures adherence to federal, state, accreditation, and organizational requirements related to surgical services operations, including tissue and implant tracking, documentation standards, and regulatory readiness.
• Strategic Leadership: Collaborates with executive leadership to develop, execute, and monitor Surgical Services strategic priorities, organizational goals, and transformational initiatives that support long-term system objectives.
• Best Practice: Establishes governance structures and leads efforts to identify, evaluate, and implement evidence-based best practices, driving standardization, innovation, and continuous improvement across Surgical Services.
• Governance and Education Participation: Provides leadership in the implementation of policy, practice, and operational changes by partnering with education, quality, and operational teams to ensure successful adoption, sustainability, and measurable outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in clinical discipline from an accredited institution (degree verification required).
• Five (5) years’ experience in a Surgical Services area.
• Demonstrated understanding of surgical and procedural related policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements, including experience with tissue and implant management and related regulations.
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading teams, initiatives, or organizational change efforts.
• Experience driving clinical, operational, regulatory, and financial outcomes through collaboration with leaders, physicians, caregivers, and stakeholders across multiple levels of the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrated experience leading large team or system leadership experience.
• Five (5) years leadership experience.
• Previous experience with policy or procedural development.

Physical Requirements

• Ongoing need for caregiver to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
• Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require caregiver to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
• Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
• May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader rounds or does audits in clinical environment.

• For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$68.42 - $105.62
