WBTW News 13 is seeking a dynamic Digital News Producer / Digital Reporter to create compelling, timely, and engaging content across digital and broadcast platforms. The ideal candidate is a strong writer with excellent news judgment, a passion for breaking news, and the ability to identify stories that resonate with audiences. This position will be responsible for producing original digital content, driving audience engagement, analyzing audience trends, and supporting newsroom coverage through multi-platform storytelling.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced newsroom environment, collaborates effectively with colleagues, and understands how to leverage data, social media, and digital tools to maximize audience reach and impact.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Digital Content Creation & Reporting

  • Report news quickly, accurately, and ethically across digital platforms.
  • Write engaging headlines, articles, and breaking news updates designed to inform audiences and drive engagement.
  • Develop original content that differentiates WBTW from competitors.
  • Research, gather, and verify information using contacts, public records, social media, and online resources.
  • Build stories that perform well across multiple websites and digital platforms.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local sources and key community contacts.
  • Identify audience interest trends and use analytics and performance data to inform content decisions.
  • Deliver multiple digital stories daily across a variety of topics and beats.

Multi-Platform News Production

  • Produce and publish content for the station website, mobile applications, and social media channels.
  • Write and edit video descriptions, teases, and digital content that complements broadcast coverage.
  • Shoot photos and video as needed to enhance storytelling.
  • Collaborate with reporters, photographers, assignment editors, anchors, and producers to maximize content opportunities.
  • Support breaking news, severe weather, and developing coverage across all platforms.

Audience Engagement & Social Media

  • Utilize social media platforms for news gathering, source development, audience engagement, and story promotion.
  • Understand the types of stories and content strategies that drive web traffic and audience growth.
  • Work closely with newsroom leadership to deliver a content mix that reflects audience interests and station priorities.
  • Continuously monitor emerging trends and identify opportunities to increase audience engagement and reach.

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience creating digital content for web-based platforms.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a solid understanding of AP Style.
  • Excellent news judgment and understanding of digital audience behavior.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Self-motivated, competitive, and results-oriented.
  • Comfortable conducting interviews and cultivating local sources.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately during breaking news situations.
  • Familiarity with agency contacts and public information resources for efficient newsgathering.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and their role in reporting, audience engagement, and traffic generation.
  • Experience using analytics and audience data to guide editorial decisions.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required.
  • HTML, CSS, Photoshop, video editing, and content management system experience are a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as newsroom needs require.
  • Consistently meets established performance and audience metrics.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and professional experience may be considered.
